My son will be loading in Waco Thursday night going to Leesville La. Hwy 84 looks practical but possibly two lane most or all the way across. Two hundred eighty five miles of two lanes in the middle of the night is never fun. I know Tx has improved a lot of the roads since I was personally in that neck of the woods.
Anyone know a route that would be 4 lane? Or would he be better to go south and use 190 out of Huntsville?
Need some input about east Texas roads.

Highway 84 going east out of waco is not a bad road to run...it is mostly a 4 lane road , you do have to slow down going through some of the towns, but mostly 65mph or 70 mph out in the open and it might become a two lane road for a little bit but then it will go back to a four lane...I do not know where Leesville,La is without getting out my Atlas , I just know that highway 84 is a good road to run and you can take 259or 59 or 71 north up to interstate 20 towards shrevport

We have used US 31 between I20 and Waco but still every town has a loop or bypass of some kind with a detour thrown in for good measure now and then. Lately we have been staying on I35 to I20 and it works better but a loooong way around to get to Leesville. Just no good way to get there it seems, but it's been many years since I was in the area. I know they have made improvements on some north-south routes so maybe the same for east and west.

He's goin to have to suck it up and drive the 2 lanes. 6 so out of Waco to Marlin, 7 east to Lufkin, 69 south to Zavalla, 63 east to LA8 into Leesville. 271 miles.

Thanks, that's the most direct route. Some of those roads I was not sure about for truck use. Would it be about the same to use 84 east? It's 285 miles but with less winding around through the towns and such.
Or how about I45 from tx7 to huntsville and then 190, About the same distance. -
84 is a good road been cross it a few times coming from houston to coushatta it do turn to 2 lane at LA line but not bad
Jake The Bullhauler Thanks this. -
none of them will be 4 lane.
190 has a low bridge at the la state line so he would have to drop south to deridder just outside jasper tx.
they are all good roads as long as you stay of the farm to market roads. even then most of those are good. and its all 70mph -
Thanks guys for the replies. Looks like it will have to be 84 into La and turn south. He will load at midnight and deliver in the morning early. Not a fun night.

You can go under that bridge.. You just have to go right down the middle to keep from hitting those supports... We had a driver that had to do it... it was fun to hear the story.. It is legal I guess he didn't get a ticket.. Texas State Trooper followed him across..
