Need some old timer advice please,

    Those old Allison automatic would take a lot. Allison automatic were used behind Detroit’s in earthmoving equipment way back in the 60s.

    That's true, as most off road construction equipment had automatics. I don't ever recall a front end loader with a manual trans. Thing is, for some reason, they didn't make good road transmissions. In the 80s, I knew a guy had a Mack tri-axle with an automatic,, and had left leg issues, so a manual was out. That truck was on the hook , more times than not, many times with a load on. And don't kid yourself, those old automatics on loaders and such, kept the mobile service guy plenty busy.

    I'd have maybe considered switching to 11R rubber and just lived with it being a slow truck.
