I believe that the phrase you are looking for is "respectful but firm", or something along those lines.

What's the difference between a trainer and mentor?

I'd say that a trainer is there to provide instruction and demonstrate how to complete the tasks, while the student learns. A mentor is there to provide guidance, while the student performs the tasks...?

There is no formal trainig or standards

    That's the difference.

Most of the complaints I read are with people who have these 'trainers' and the trainers have only less than a year on the road, which makes no sense other than stupidity on the companies part.

More often these guys don't actually train, they are just there to team with the newbe and that's it.

I've sat waiting many many times to get into a dock while a newbie and his trainer could not put a truck into the dock. The last time this happened it was an hour and 20 minutes watching both of them try but could not get it right with a wide open dock, with guidelines and cones on the ground. Finally the forklift driver told them to move so others could get in.

Unless the lawmakers step in that's the way it will always be,the blind leading the blind so to speak. Which shows me companies could care less about quality training and safety but all about loads and money.

Swift may have so called mentors but there training isn't any better then any other company. There many accidents proves that.

Your trainer is an idiot, but you don't need cruise control or radio. I did 8 weeks of training without ever listening to the radio. I drove over 500k before I went local without ever using cruise control. As for the rest of your complaints your trainer is an idiot.

    pattyj Thanks this.
