I know that it is frustrating, but when you see this, it is rarely helpful to vent your frustration at the already-nervous trainee. If you can help them, please try. I know that sometimes there are language barriers, and in other cases the trainee lacks intelligence and/or listening skills, but it takes as long as it takes no matter how agitated you get - and if he hits something, it's probably going to take a lot longer.
Most trainees learn more, and faster, from helpfulness and patience than from anger and aggressiveness. They also appreciate and remember the helpful fellow, and not so much the a-hole.
I understand that it's hard to maintain that patience, especially given how long most newbies last, and the constant churn of new ones coming in, but the alternative only makes things worse.
And you're right, trainers are often terrible, themselves. Part of the problem is that high churn rate, but some of it also lies in the fact that, for all the complaining, experienced drivers are rarely willing to train. If the experts won't do it, then who does that leave?
Help, if you can. At least try to be patient, if you can't help. He may be an idiot, being trained by a moron, but if the only ones willing to be responsible for the zoo are the monkeys, you gotta expect there to be poo on the walls...![]()
Need some opinions on my trainer

If the OP is with Prime, which I only speculate, because he mentions the TNT phase (that's one of their "buzzwords") he's gonna be with this guy for quite some time, unless he DOES in fact request a new trainer/mentor.
No, I've never driven for Prime but one of my wife's best friends is going to become a trainer there in the near future, and will require extra training on "how to train," herself.
In listening to their chattings, no WAY is what that trainer/mentor did acceptable, and if it IS in fact with Prime, they'll probably show HIM the door. Not the OP.
Best of luck to ya man, update us when possible.tinytim Thanks this. -
It really doesn't sound like he is doing anything to actually "train" you. Get another trainer, and potentially look at other companies. This one sounds like a career-ending one (all the violations going unfixed on the truck).

You don't have a trainer. Your stuck with some dirtbag the company needs to keep afloat to make his fleece payment.
Just get a new trainer. If you get stuck at the terminal for awhile, oh well.
In the meantime, eat a can of Stagg Dynamite Hot Chili strait from the can just before he goes to sleep. Make sure you eat it strait from the can, unheated.
I never took anyone " by the house " or any of that other crap these dirt bags pull. He's probably a crappy driver as well, and your time won't be that well spent with him like it would be with a real driver.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
^^^ Good point.... I had to jump thru HOOPS and cough up some cash, to take the wife and son with me last year, for "insurance" purposes. Him picking up another family member would've been the SOOOOOOO GOTTA GO ... for me.

Yeah... it's bad enough squeezing two adults into that limited space, and not getting on one another's nerves. I would not be okay with adding more bodies... if he wants to be a bus driver, that's fine, but I'm a trainee, not a passenger, and I especially don't want to be responsible for your family members, on top of everything else, when I do drive. I've got enough pressure on me, as a trainee, already, thanks.

I agree with Tomcat, O/P is likely with Prime. I am a Prime driver and TNT is definitely a term we use.
To the O/P, if you are in fact with Prime, contact dispatch and request a new trainer. Make them aware of all issues, especially phone on wheel. If they don't help, contact safety, use that photo if necessary. Don't let this poor excuse for a trainer deter you from moving forward with them. There are some good trainers here and in my experience this has been a great company to start my career with.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Also, if you have the Prime app, you can get that photo sent directly to the company in an instant.
