I bought a Truck 3/10/2017.
Company wants stamped copy of 2290 before I go to orientation.
So if they are going to charge me $1,975 a year for IRP plate why do I have to pay the prorated amount when I file today. E-file sites who say 'stamped copy within minutes' wants $183.33. cause that's $550 divided by 12, times 4 month left until June 30. what do you think.
Need stamped copy of 2290 before Leasing On to a carrier

Go to an IRS office, they will give you a stamped copy on the spot.
-
Some states give you a grace period. NC gives you 60 days. If they don't receive the stamped copy in that time they revoke the plate. What does the lease say about who pays 2290?
-
many websites will e-file and e-mail you a stamped copy within mins for around $30-$40 plus the $550 for the tax

Pay the $183.....

Use express truck tax, they only charge $9.99 to file. I've used them the past 2 years now and get my stamped copy within minutes. The have an app for android and apple so you can do it directly from your phone. https://www.expresstrucktax.com
Meade Trucking, LumbraX and Klleetrucking Thank this. -
Go to IRS.gov and download the form. Takes 2 minutes to fill out. Enclose a check for the amount due, a postage stamp, and mail it in. Cost to file is the price of a stamp, and you get the stamped receipt back in a couple weeks.
I'd only consider a more costly approach if time was of the essence and you needed it ASAP. Out of all of the paperwork you're going to have to fill out, the 2290 is probably one of the simplest to figure out. Of course if you LIKE wasting money, there is no shortage of folks willing to file that simple form on your behalf...for a fee. -
You bought a truck and you didn't know about the 2290?
-
The prorated amount is correct. Express truck will E-file for less than 10 bucks and select mail voucher payment and you do not have to pay today even though you will get the stamped copy today. I wouldn't wait longer than a week or two on sending payment the IRS will charge penalties.
Meade Trucking Thanks this.
