Fuel surcharge is for dedicated customers so the rate will adjust with fuel, that’s it, bid the work so you can make enough profit and move on with it, everything now a days is about “extras” which come out the same, if not more as the highest price usually

    Brettj3876 and Sumday33 Thank this.

Tell the broker you know where he lives. It might get some extra $$$ for you.

With what the fuel price is , the fuel surcharge wont be much. Google fuel surcharge, there are charts that show you what it is , and how to calculate it.

    Sumday33 Thanks this.

For the spot market, just get the best rate you can. The Fuel Surcharge is for long term contracts when the fuel price can change dramatically. Then the rate changes, up or down depending on the fuel price.

A tip for getting a better rate from a broker is to tell them that you know better what the rate should be and that it is not very nice of them not to want to pay you what you ask them to pay you.

Another tip is to get subscription to a loadboard that is linked up with a factoring company which provides them with most recent average rates on lanes. Best is DAT. It is either DAT Power or DAT TruckersEdge.
This way at least you know what rate you should not get below. You can also tell them what DAT shows for the rate, for the hell of it or at least they know that you know better.
Most of other tips out there cannot be much more than jokes.
    OKAY

How do you know what the rate should be? I know you have your expense numbers. But how do you know what the market would pay?
