Hey all, just got my CDL I have doubles-triples, tankers and hazmat endorsements but am a newbie. I'm in California does anyone know of any companies that will hire new grads OTR but have home time every weekend?
I don't want a local job, I want to go over the road but need to be home every weekend. Thanks for any help.

Home every weekend is a local job. Try Gordon Trucking, have dedicated account that might work if you live in the right area. But not until after training, with no home time during training.

From what I have read on here you pay your dues first then try to get a "dedicated", if that's the right terminology. I believe dedicated means the same run all the time and home on weekends if not every night. I am still learning and reading as much as I can so the best answer will come from a pro. Good luck!

check into flatbed companies. The ones in this region offer home "most" weekends. Not saying it's true, it's what they advertise.

Hard to get that kind of hometime just starting out.

Get a container gig out of Long Beach.... It will allow you to be home every day so you can look for a real job.

The possibility is there, albeit a bit slim. You just got that license, what makes you think you know how to drive? Not trying to discourage you, but really? You may find that one of the larger companies is your best bet this early in the game. You need experience.
I'm in the position I need to be home nightly, and I'm experienced, not as much as many, but experienced nontheless, and just put a "Situation wanted" ad in the local paper.
Seeing where you are, you have a better chance at getting what you're wanting, but the experience may be the stopper. Good luck at any rate, it could happen.:biggrin_25525:

If you want to be home, why become a trucker? I just don't get it. Reminds me of a guy I went to (trucking) school with who was a former salesman and said he was making a career change because he was tired of being on the road all the time. Seriously, folks, truckers travel. On the road. A lot.
