I'm looking for a company that will give me a chance when I turn 18 in January. The day I turn 18 I'm getting kicked out of my house two weeks before I would be starting college. Driving a truck it seems like would be my only choice or end up on the streets. I have no living relatives to go to. I do not even have my driver license at this time either. I'm in a really tough spot and basically wondering if there is a company that would train me. I'm willing to sign to a contract to work for them for X amount of years. I am located in Alta Loma California and I would join the military but I cannot due to the fact that I only have my high school Proficiency diploma. Any advice would be helpful at this time.

Last I knew the Military will accept a GED. Finding a company that will hire an 18 year old without experience will be tough. It's an insurance thing.
Not sure why you are getting kicked out of your home, but there should be other options available to you. -
Anythings possible in california........
Best of Luck !! -
Besides, you can't drive interstate until your 21 according to Federal Law.
I hear the Army & McDonald's is hiring!Skunk_Truck_2590 Thanks this. -
Cant drive interstate commercially untill you are 21. Trucking is not the salvation you are looking for. I was out of my parents house before 18 .... had a job at 13. How is it that you have no options, and are looking for a "hail mary" solution a month before you live on the street?
I'd get a GED (test is around 40 bucks) and join the military. -
1) The day I turn 18 I'm getting kicked out of my house
2) I would be starting college.
3) I only have my high school Proficiency diploma
Sorry but 1 + 2 + 3 do not ADD UP and trucking is sure not the SAVE ALL you might think it is. Better off looking for a job on a loading dock.Wargames Thanks this. -
The U.S. Army does not take GED's check with another branch.

And if he is panicking.... He isn't good enough for the Marines.
So that leaves the Air Force, Navy, Coast Gaurd, National Gaurd, & TSAWargames Thanks this. -

Can I enlist with a GED?
The answer is yes. However, there are many additional criteria for enlisting with a GED as opposed to enlisting with a traditional High School diploma.
These are:
* You must obtain a 65 qualifying score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).
* Under normal circumstances, 1% of our enlisted force accessions are GED holders during a one-year period.
* If you are a GED holder, you can gain the same eligibility as a high school graduate by obtaining 15 or more semester hours of qualifying college credit.
* GED applicants must wait on slots to become available, and this can sometimes mean waiting periods of up to one year.
* You must be at least 18 years of age.

Education
Generally speaking, you must be a high school graduate, have earned a GED or have met other high school equivalency requirements to enlist in the Navy. For specific qualifying circumstances, contact a recruiter.

Army

Enlisting with a GED
The Army is not accepting people with a GED in most areas of the country, however, the Army reserves the right to waive certain disqualifications and allow enlistment if deemed in the best interest of the individual and the service. If you will only need a waiver for the GED, it is highly likely that you will be accepted. Please note that when the Army did accept a GED, they were required to score at least 50 on the ASVAB.
There are some drawbacks to enlisting with a GED, such as not being eligible for bonuses. If you have 15 college credit hours under your belt, you will be eligible for bonuses. Also, upon reaching 30 college semester hours, no waiver is needed for the GED.
