Did you read the whole post, I explained why the economy was better, great actually, and why it likely would not happen again. I am well aware of Harris county is not the whole state, but up until that TEXAS economy was based on oil and the state tanked for a couple of years, when that happened.

North Austin is the best area for living in Texas, in my opinion. Liberty Hill/Leander/Georgetown.

Round Rock and Cedar Park are nice, but its getting congested like the rest of Austin.

I like being close to Austin, just not in it.

When the economy tanked therevwere 40,000 houses sold at action a month average for several months, construction was at a standstill. Up until that time I worked construction and still did, but I had lots of connections in the trade and still had to work for almost half of what wages were before, but part of that was because I left the coast and moved to the hill country.
Cattle industry, farming and all is great, but not even close to supporting the states population.
Like I said Texas has since diversified and no longer bases all of it's economy on oil like it before that time.

60 to 70 miles out of Austin is close enough for me. I do like the hill country, if it was not so hot.

Just like in N D a few years back there was a little slump a lot of people lost houses, 4 wheelers, vehicles. Living off what they make & no savings.

That was part of it, but the price of everything went way up in ND anywhere close to the oilfields, and it hurt some that had been there all their lives, especially the older ones on fixed incomes and could not take advantage of the money to be made.
Masses moved in overnight and the infastructure couldn't keep up with it during the boom, then boom it was over for a while but I understand it has since picked back up quite a bit. I had quite a few friends go down for the boom, most came back pretty quick, but some stayed for the duration.
