Anyone in the Indianapolis area willing to help me out with some seat time?
I work as a mechanic for a fleet, and they are willing to train me after I get my CDL.
I already have my permit and X endorsement. I would attend a school but I don't have thousands of dollars and financing is not a option for me.. Plus there is nothing but bad reviews of the schools.
    Thanks

If I were you I would call all the companies that hire someone with no driving experience out of your area and see what they require. That's where I started.

I have talked to two company's that hire people with no experience and because of a misdemeanor I had last year they will not train/hire me.

The company I work for now as a mechanic has no problem with my past history. And in my opinion (3 years working there) is a pretty decent company to drive for.
    Thanks

I have tried taking the skills test once. Passed the PTI and passed the backing with ease.. I do this all the time at work.. But getting out on the road and shifting is a lot different than shifting in our lot.

I think I have a good idea who you work for. Will they let you take a road trip with a driver hauling cross dock, since you already have a permit? If not, the guys/gals working the gate probably know of some local O/O that delivers freight there frequently that MIGHT be agreeable to what you are looking for.

I do know another driver that started out working in the TMF. Never asked him about his route to getting training though.

    Down71 Thanks this.

Strange thing. Me and my boss were talking about me taking a couple vacation days and going out on the road with one of the drivers doing a local run or a short 2 day run..
I think this is what i am going to try and do... Thanks
