Are there any Companies that still offer a week off every 3 to 4 weeks? Driving job only So one can return home and see family every so often. Im mainly thinking of south TX Eagle Ford area. Are there many people coming from out of state and looking for Jobs down there like in ND. and where do they hang out at in the mean time? Are there any good Temp services that can keep you afloat until you can find what your looking for? Mainly from San Anton to the south west.
Need work? South Texas Oilfield hiring like crazy!

I have not seen a job posted in S. TX. with 4 weeks on and 1 off. I saw a couple that have 1 week vacation after 6 months. I,m up north just like you Jefferyz , trying to get info. I think it,s a good idea to get a job, before you move there. Stevens hired me and where all excited because of all my off rd and otr tanker exp., had to wait for weeks for a orientation opening. When I,m about to leave, they pulled the plug. I know there not know as a great co., but a way to get your foot in the door. I think you might as well plan on flying your family down, if ya want to see them. I,m sure they would be cool with the s. Tx. weather, versus MN. in the winter. Make sure you can handle the heat, my favorite weather is 100 + and hummid.

I am really confused and was hoping you might give me some insight. I have filed hundreds of applications online for entry level oil field positions. Every single response that has come back has been a negative. I am not sure why, in fact I cannot believe that no one would be willing to hire a vet, with good references, in good health, with a sound work ethic . I have a CDL with ALL endorsements, and have sought work doing anything imaginable. Could it be my resume? I can work in any weather, any terrain, can learn easily, all the things that I would be looking for in an employee, all verifiable through references. So, I can only think it's my resume or my age (43) that scares recruiters away. This has been an ongoing process for me for over a year now. I was hoping someone could look at my resume and tell me what you think, and if not that, then should I just give up trying to start a new career in the Oil Industry?
I see that many people recommend going to an oil boom area and start knocking on doors. I did that last winter in North Dakota, went from Dickinson, to Williston, To Bismarck and back again to Dickinson. I wasnt just applying for a driving job, although I really want to learn about coiled tubing and fraccing, I will settle for any job in the oil industry where I can work hard and for a long time, Id even drive around scrubbing port-a- podys if it would give me a chance. I have a little money left since my layoff in June 2011, but I also have two kids to feed. I would certainly climb in my truck and head to Odessa and start knocking on doors if I wasnt worried about losing what I have left in the face of my children. I am at my wits end. I know that the oil field could give me a career in which to retire, I just cant seem to get anyone to take a look at me.
If anyone out there can point me in the right direction I sure would be grateful. I can work any hours, any shift, learn real fast, can travel anywhere in the US and could go at a moments notice. I want to put my Email here so if anyone could shoot me a line and tell me what they think, or if they want to look at my resume and tell me if its not any good for this, I would appreciate and respond to any and all.
Applied to:
Key Energy/Chesapeake Energy/CUDD Energy/Nabors/RIGZONE (various)/Halliburton/Schlumberger/Fractech
And a host of others this past year.

I can't see that age should be an issue in your case. I am almost 63, and while I am an experienced oilfield driver(winch/vac/heavy haul) as well as being a heavy duty mechanic with my own service truck-there probably IS a point at which my age becomes more important than my experience-maybe an insurance thing. I haven't got to that point, but I know it is out there even though my health is excellent. Any other old guys want to comment on the age thing?
Good luck to you -
I filled out applications online, and received 0 calls. I filled out applications for the same companies, and submitted them in person, and have been to 3 interviews.Today was with Nabors.

Driverdown, try to get ahold of SOS staffing. They do most of the hiring for schlumberger and a few other frac companies. Also try frac tech they hire lots of green hats. Halliburton usually hires lots of green hats but it seems like their having trouble competing in most fields and they may not be hiring right now.

@ Driverdown.....the best advice I can give you is you are going to have to go around a knock on doors, talking to these people face to face. Thats going to get more done then sending in apps online. A lot of these people working in HR departments are incompitent and do nothing but shuffle papers around. Ive been in some HR depts and seen women doing nothing but looking at Lazurus catalogs trying to figure out what they were going to buy when they cashed theyre check for the week. You CANNOT rely on an online application.A lot of the bigger outfits have software that screen your resume for specific words, if those words are not on the resume it gets canned before they even have the chance to look at it.Thats why you must go to all offices and speak with them face to face. With a CDL and all endorsements you should have absolutely no problem getting a job.You should have no problem finding work in Odessa/Midland/Big Spring/Big Lake/San Angelo areas. Some people claim there are all kinds of signs along the road for CDL drivers around Enid and Alva OK.I can tell you one thing for sure ....because I am 1...the most discriminated person in this country is a single white male. I know that for a fact.Being that your a veteran and have 2 kids to feed and own a CDL you should have no problem getting a job.Timing is everything. This forum has a great deal of good info on it and I would research it heavily to figure out where these booms are and where theyre going to be for a while. The Cline/Wolfcamp shale play is the next BIG boom coming. It spans from Sweetwater to south of Big Lake. Its been confirmed that this shale play will dwarf the Bakken and Eagle Ford.I know thats a bold statement, its all on record.Research it. If you cannot find a job there I dont know what to tell you..........Good Luck and thanks for your service!
HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and diamondz Thank this. -
I had a interview with Frac Tech, and I left with a bad taste in my mouth. They run there guys hard, with no mercy. Pumpco, and Nabors are next door to each other.

Driverdown hang in there, your luck and timing is just off a bit. In ND they want 2 yrs tanker exp, in Tx. they say there,s co.s that hire drivers with no exp. I have 9 yrs off rd , 1 million miles, 600k pulling tankers and no oil field job yet. My pal has a friend that is a laid off school teacher with 2 kids, he drove to ND ran into a guy at walmart he hired him to pump out houses 25.00 with 5.00 per hr per diem free housing. He,s doing better than alot of truck drivers, but then again he has to deal with there crap literally. haha
