What does Ohio have to do with it? I'm from Ohio. Merging traffic has a Yield sign. I'll get over if I can, only to be polite. If not, your better get on the gas or brakes. My limited education understands physics, and my attorney understands law. I'll do what I need to, to save a persons life. But if your stupid, I'm not risking my equipment or families way of life. Not for a dummy.

The understanding of Yield Sign needs more attention in drivers ed, I agree.

How about putting a sign on the entrance ramps?
"You are about to enter a 70MPH roadway. Speed up"

As far as Ohio well I don't agree with what the cop said and this is why:

"In order to obtain a license in cosmetology, esthetics, and nail technology in the state of Ohio, students must complete the requirements listed below.
    License Requirements
    COSMETOLOGY: 1500 hours
    ADVANCED COSMETOLOGY: 1800 hours
    ESTHETICS: 600 hours
    ADVANCED ESTHETICS: 750 hours
    ADVANCED MANICURING: 300 hours
    HAIR DESIGN: 1200 hours

How many hours is the Ohio police academy?
    737 hours

The curriculum requires a minimum of 737 hours of training, although local academies may mandate additional hours. Some academies run on a weekday schedule, some offer evening and/or weekend training, and some are college-based and on a semester calendar.

I'll never forget one time in the Salt Lake area, during rush hour so I could not move over a lane, a car on the on-ramp right next to me with his lane ending very quickly.
It was during all that construction several years back.
He tries to speed up past me but has no room to do so, and ends up slamming on his brakes just before he hits the concrete barriers.
    Scratch one car.

It is the responsibility of the person coming into traffic to make the merge safely - even if they have to stop first.

It is nice when I can move over a or slow down a bit for them, but I am under no obligation to do so.
And I have run into too many people that, when I start to slow down for them they start slowing as well - staying right on my front bumper - trying to play who can go slower I guess, when they have all the acceleration they need to get past me once I start slowing.

IMG_0304 2.jpg IMG_0342.jpg If i'am running at highway speed 55 mph plus I always leave plenty of space for merging cars in front of me, if more cars than will fit in front of me are merging I will back off a little so more will fit, some times I will move over half a lane to give a little more room and time for a pack of cars to figure out what to do and on occasion I will move over a full lane and stay there but that is mostly when another highway is merging but it also depends on what I'm hauling when running oversize I am more willing to move over hell I may be running 2 lanes anyway better to give up 1/2 a lane than have to deal with the commercial guy and insurance over a few feet of lane.
And I don't look at the driver of the other car that is mad or honking I just look ahead and ignore them or check my mirror on the other side I never acknowledge they exist or that anything happened
