My soft rule is if there's 3 or more cars in a clump trying to get on, I'll give the same effort as if it's a big rig. I figure the middle of the three has diminished control of the situation, so I'll make the effort. For less cars than that, the highway has to be wide open before I'll think about it.
When it's packed and I can't move over, I'll often still put my left blinker on anyway. Once they get behind you they can see you made an effort.
I bet there's some people who see trucks move over for each other and assume its because there's a law saying trucks must move over. There's been extended publicity campaigns in the past such as wide right turns, and more recently to leave more space in front of a bigrig, and those have had a positive impact in public awareness. Maybe it's time for one of those for merging on.
Need your advice about cars merging

I'll slow down/move over if I'm a good mood, otherwise good luck

I get flipped off a lot. That should tell you my policy.
I get over for semi trucks, lights and sirens, and anyone in a Duramax.TokyoJoe, JoeyJunk and slow.rider Thank this. -
We live on a globe. There is as much room behind me as in front of me. Let the rest of us know what you decide.

Well, WE Truckers, when we're NOT in Our Trucks during OFF TIME, We're probably just "4 wheel drivers".
Some of US are defined by our habit of W-I-D-E Turns.
ACCELERATION RAMPS those without stop signs or flow control devices or Inclines.
In Combos, I moved over IF/WHEN FEASIBLE or maybe reduced speed, yet would reduce speed for LIT UP EMERGENCY VEHICLES. -
Always always remember to have your dash-cam and record while you’re driving so you can show it to the law enforcement of the incident. If a car does cut you and slam on their brakes, quickly turn on the jake brake and hopefully that will slow you down

I make the decision based on the situation. Sometimes the timing is bad, that’s life
But many are no brainers, and should be planned ahead. -
I will always do my best to avoid an accident. That said I’m not gonna cut someone off to save some idiot who can’t figure out something as simple as merging.
I found 99% of truckers will work with you to keep from speed marching if you can’t get over. A flash of the lights and beep on the horn says “come on over and keep it rolling”
A long beep on the horn says “slow it down cow boy I’m running a little quicker let me by then merge”
I hardly ever slow down for 4wheelers because then they get all confused and idk how the law would feel if there was an accident and it looked like I was trying to keep them from merging.TokyoJoe and Linte_Loco Thank this.
