You mean they were saying something like don't do that study and become a lawyer instead? Yeah that'd be a big mistake huh? For family people that can't bare to be away from home for more then a few hours then OTR is not a good avenue. Best off becoming an accountant.

I was provided a lawyer. A bit of background Baltimore is Maritime and has a powerful tradition of shipping to the world among other things back then. This lawyer was concerned with industrial accidents in whatever form of transport it might be. In my case it was trucking.

In the first lawsuit against me, the worker alledged I deliberately committed a form of assault by CMV and should pay him 66500 for his trouble. (Ive told that story else where here) well my lawyer told me to say what happened up to the accident and then stop talking, he will go into battle.

Exposed the man as a doctor shopper is a modern term for a strained shoulder where my right rear tire tapped him on the large car's coupe door. He was fine until the multiple prescriptions came up that point to addiction to narcotics possibly. He was reduced across that table to a shell that had no answers. And thus there was no trial. There couldnt be. Not with that shaky credibility.

This lawyer is particuarly predatory with words going after this poor man. I started off waging war for defense and then ended up realizing this man did it to hisself. He had no case on several vectors. It's nice to see how a deposition at the table can sort out many things without the hassle of a court trial.

I generally tolerate them, but ###### if I am going to be engaged in that kind of shark tank. It's not for me.

Flatbed is a great way to go. Flatbed averages more revenue per mile than reefer or dry van. Flatbed also gives you experience to move up to high, wide, and heavy. Put in a good solid year or two with Prime, then start looking at better companies.

Here's the thing I really like about your situation: I know quite a few individuals and couples that were in your boat. They got into OTR trucking, sold off everything that didn't fit in a truck, got a mailbox as an address, sold the car, etc. so they were able to live without any rent, mortgage, utilities, car payments, insurance, etc.

Catch my drift? They BANKED or invested the majority of their weekly paychecks.

One couple I know I trained the husband. The wife started CDL school about a month after he did. Swift has a Friends and Family program that allowed him to train his wife once he tested out of my truck (he had 10 years experience in class B).

They had $65K credit card debt when they finally started running as a team. That all got paid off within a year. Within three years, after seeing all of the lower 48, they decided a small town in Kentucky was the place for them. They took a 34, found a real estate agent and paid CASH for a nice house with two acres.

Today he drives for a regional fuel distributor. She stays home.

If you want to live in a truck OTR and get RID of all those monthly payments, you too can start banking serious money. I have more stories to tell about this way of getting debt free and free of living from paycheck to paycheck by going OTR, but I think it would detract from the message.

I first got my CDL in '77 while in college, as a summer job. I wish I had stuck with it, rather than "use" my college education and get roped into rent or mortgage hooks. I would be WAY ahead of the game now.

Then there's the other thing...you get to be paid to see stuff most folks take vacations for...

It's YOUR life, bud. You do you.

    I have done many jobs.

Trucking is still one of the best paying jobs I've ever had.

I'd like to be home more, but punching a clock is soul-crushing to me.
