You got me brainstorming now. Now I'm thinking on going otr for 2 years and putting my belongings in a storage container

Think twice, most OTR truck drivers work for minimum wage or close to it. If you don’t believe me than look around this forum and you’ll see how experienced people slave for 55cpm or less.074344 Thanks this.

Listening to other people is a good way to never get anywhere in life if you have an idea that’s even remotely off the beaten path.Carpenter Scotty, Flat Earth Trucker and Puppage Thank this.

I had a great white collar job in a huge mega resort in Las Vegas. My wife and I decided to quit my job and she quit her low paying job and we went to CDL school and both of us team drove with Swift to start. We lived on the road(in the truck) for 2 years and saved all our money. After 2 years we put that money towards a house and a new car. We both had to be disciplined for our spending but I think it is a great way to save money and see the country.

if you as a beginner, want to live in a truck, make $400 maybe a week, sit , and not get paid. ha ha ha go for it.

Yes, you won't get much money when you are in training and that is something that you have to deal with starting from the beginning. That is why you have to save money before you go out there and drive. Once you get on your own then you will make good money.
I always wanted to be a truck driver even as a kid and then it became a reality. If you desire it and you put effort to it than do it and live out your dream and enjoy life. -
What you’re experiencing is extremely common, especially for people who haven’t been around trucking.
Most of the negativity comes from outsiders projecting their fears, not from an understanding of the job itself. They hear “truck driver” and think worst-case stories: accidents, loneliness, exhaustion; usually secondhand and exaggerated.
A couple things to keep in mind:
• Every career has miserable people in it. Trucking just happens to have a very loud online presence.
• A lot of drivers who hate it made bad early choices (company, lanes, expectations) and assume the whole industry is the same.
• The first year is hard; that part isn’t a lie; but it doesn’t define the rest of your career.
If the lifestyle fits you, that matters more than other people’s opinions. Plenty of drivers are content, stable, and make a good living — they’re just not posting about it every day.
You’re not “throwing yourself into hell.” You’re trying something that matches how you’re wired. Give yourself time to see if it works for you, not for everyone else.
Focus on learning, staying safe, and keeping your options open. The rest will sort itself out.
