I suppose that's fair. I guess I just find that kind of straight robbery to be repugnant, and a little baffling. You'd think folks'd have a better idea of what their own operating costs would be.

i came across few operators hailing from florida that do operate under 'high risk' to put it nicely.. i knew carriers who dont put the drivers on the insurance, the insurance is bob tail only and then dont pay the driver after 2-3 weeks of work to make him quit, dont have ifta, etc.. i guess under those conditions, you could make it at 0.75??
and no, "at least i am getting paid something" is no good excuse because you waste time to load and unload, almost a full day wasted ontop of low pay, that day you gain if you deadhead straight to the next far away load paying you over $2 -

I Think there should be a minimum amount of time a new entrant must stay 100% compliasnt in good standing with Authority Insurance and operations.

I don't know what some of you guys are seeing out here but I'm seeing $5, $6, & $7 on 500 mile reefer runs out of the Midwest. When freight is that good I ALWAYS as a matter of routine deadhead right back to it as soon as I empty out. The time you're wasting with a $2 a mile back haul (or even worse) back to the high dollar stuff will end causing you to lose a couple of thousand or more in gross revenue that week.
I can do back $3,000 runs with 50% deadhead or a $3,000 run out then maybe $1,000+/- back with insignificant deadhead. Going back to the strong market empty saves critical time and will net more money than trying to,cover those empty miles with a load. And honestly I can't remember a week in a couple of months or more where I haven't had at least 50% deadhead in a week. I think there's a LOT of carriersout here doing that and that's one of several reasons why areas like the northeast are paying like they haven't in decades. No-one is bothering with cheaploads anymore because they don't have to.Last edited: Oct 4, 2017

I was told today by a broker that their customers can't keep up with the rates and have difficulties to communicate the reality to them.... 4 -5 dol a mile for over 500 miles runs is pretty consistent in the Midwest - easy to get when you get out, deadheading back all this mileage is affordable...The sooner you're back in the wonderful Chicagoland the better. For more, you need to be more foxy and deliberate. NOW I really don't have any regrets about getting my MC#, I knew the 5 minutes of glory would come but never expected that so soon. The party is on and I am in it. Let's all pray to the Almighty now that it will last awhile.
Just curious what the causation is; sudden consumption increase, production increase, ELDS,.. all this combined probably.Last edited: Oct 4, 2017
