attached are two sections of my nevada permit. they are stacked and should be separated so it looks confused. sorry...

well my first post went pretty well and is still receiving comments two years on.

    this is my second question.

in the past many times i have received 60k on my drives and single axle jo dog jeep from the state of nevada. my spacings are 4'6" on the drives and 7'2" further back for the jeep. so a spread of 11'8"

today i was denied my request for the 60k i have received several times. after a few hours and about 5 conversations with the state i was told i would not be granted a permit for 60k on the 11'8" spread. the state would be happy to grant me a 60k permit if i could make the spread exactly 10' i asked if they were serious. did they really want me to do more damage to the road with a shorter spread. i was told it was a new law and only an exact 10' spread, nothing more or nothing less would be approved for 60k.

i was asked, would i like my permit for 54 something with the 11'8" spread or could i make my spread exactly 10' for the 60k permit.

how may trucks out there have an exact 10' spread for their drives and lift axle? are they 5-5 or 5.5 - 4.5? my guess it not many.

please comment about this trend. is it following other states? what are they thinking? what am i missing?

    thank you,

What??? They do that??? It’s ok if you choose to bootleg, it’s your business. Just don’t come on here and brag about it.

How can something be EXACTLY 10 feet? It cannot! It could be 10 feet and 1/32 inch for example!

I used to always worry about that when applying for permits because measuring can be somewhat subjective. If I measured overall, overhang and axle spacings more than once, I might come up with different numbers. On 5 axles, 3 to 4 is VERY subjective, depending on how straight you are...sometimes I have to close 1 eye to read the tape...

Back to the OP, can you move your 5th wheel to change spacing between your rear drive and jeep?

    Humblepie Thanks this.

I’ve never had them busy my balls over an inch or two but the difference between 11’8” and 10’ is pretty broad.

Most permit offices (if you are talking to a human) will round to the nearest 1/2 foot when manually filling out a permit form. There are exceptions but which ones have escaped my feeble mind at this time.

We're kind of lucky around here I guess. Idaho's annual permit is based upon axle spacings that we submit, and I have never had them measure.

Wyoming will go out and measure when you buy your permit at the port, and give you a card with all the spacings, so whatever they come up with it's on them.

    stwik and Humblepie Thank this.
