If you really know drivers that worked 10 years, have the ability to get better, but don't? I gotta tell you, that's their own fault.
I worked to eat for 7 years, but I realize that was my choice. Nobody was forcing me to stay. My record with my previous employer could've gotten me a job anywhere in the same field; I set myself up to be marketable to a better company. In the last 6 months I worked there, I got a call from a competitor offering almost double for the same job. They weren't happy to hear I'd planned to leave the pharmacy altogether.
something else to consider... There are companies who do pay a high cpm, but if they gouge on your benefits then you aren't doing much better anyways!
I think it would be much better advice to newbies to say, "set yourself up to grow. Take a job that has a good reputation and plan to move on. If a company wants you, they'll offer more; but don't be an easy catch either."
Before I leave SNI, I will have as many endorsements as I can get. SNI pays for the training and reimburses for the tests at the DMV. So as I've said in another thread, the beans that SNI pays me don't come in my weekly check.
Never drive for a company that starts you out below .40 cents a mile!

You can't compare base pay when many company who are very highly rated have easily obtainable bonus programs. You average it all out and your making great money....
Base pay for newbie at Danny Herman is .15 cents a mile team. Guess what. That .15 a mile will take home $1k a week. Double what I hear many in here talking about taking home starting out.. -
I have all endorsements, a TWIC card and a passport card. I never went to driving school, so Im not sure on that one.
But is it worth it in the end to drive for peanuts the first year or so, so that a carrier will pay all of that stuff. It wouldnt be for me. And yea, they do it because they want to, some just have other reasons that may benefit them and that ok. But allot of newbies I can assure you are dumped on so bad that 75% plus of them dont even make it their first year. -
Op looks like another happy CR England driver.

in 1985 .25 was the equivalent of .55 today
In 1970 .25 was the equivalent of $1.54 today
$1,200 in 1985 was the equivalent of $2,655 in today's dollars
$1,200 in 1970 was the equivalent of...drumroll please......... $7,418!!!!! -
Another thing to look at. You starting pay is what it is. However in some places and some cases you cpm is negotiable even if they don't tell you. Your driver manager and dispatcher have a lot of pull within most companies. If after say 6 months or so you have proven yourself and you're in the top 10 to 15% of drivers within a driver pool you do have some influence in getting a higher cpm, extra pay, over looking little rules that apply to other drivers, etc. If its a couple of cents between keeping you and you walking out don't be surprised if they don't cave and give you the couple of cents. Just gotta ask.

If you make 50,000 a year now driving 125,000 miles a yr. Think about those 45 yrs ago that in many cases, if he got 80,000 in a yr. he really had something to crow about, but made $30,000, he made .375 cpm. We are still seeing those making that 45 yrs later driving a heck of allot more mile.
The point in this whole thread is for newbies especially, since they are dumped on far worse than seasoned ops are, to get the best deal and dont settle for the crappy carrier lines. I know 725.00 driving to allot of newbies is better than were allot are coming from when it comes to making possibly only 350.00 a week. But get the best deal, you can do even better than 725.00 a week.Last edited: Jan 22, 2015

Don't you worry........... Someday we are all going to go on strike, bring America to its knees, and we are going to get rainbow stew at the end of the rainbow. LOL The sun will set on our backs as we ride off on our Unicorns. Well OK the Federal Marshals will probably take away our rights to riding Unicorns. LOL
