Im going to be doing mainly local containers bumping around town.what ive really read is to take and send off a coolant sample as well as a oil sample is that correct also does anyone recommend somewhere to do that?any other preventive maintenance i should do and keep extra care on? Im super nervous about this its a big step for my family and i but im super excited just kinda worried as well, any help is greatly appreciated

If the price was right you have chosen well except for maybe the automatic. I would suggest to find a good independent shop with experience from a major leasing or trucking company for regular maintenance and have an inspection done. I thank Ryder has a 30 day limited warranty period. If something like a wheel seal leaking, that you do not see, is found they can pay for it this month instead of you next month. You will need an annual inspection done and can kill two birds with one stone. May be better off going to a specialty shop, Freightliner , or Detroit for major repairs. Talk to truckers in your area and follow these important points. Work smarter not harder. Do not neglect your truck or family. Find a good accountant. Good luck!
richie rich843 Thanks this. -

I just do not like autos other than maybe Allisons, I have limited experience with them but the last one I drove worked pretty well. Someone posted on this sight that creeper mode could be programmed into into these new trucks. If it is not set up that way Ryder could possibly reprogram it for you. You can find that under the search area and I thank that would be a big plus. If Ryder did an inspection but if does not have your name on it I do not thank that is legal for your annual and you will have to get that done. They way do that for you if you ask. Company's I worked for had samples done through their oil companies. Kits can also be purchased from Cummins, Detroit, Freightliner etc. I grew to have little use for oil samples, in 1986, but must reconsider after reading posts such as Cowpie's and Grape Ape's. Search when or how often to change your oil. I somewhat disagree with him but he made educated comments that changed my point of view.

Bought three trucks from Ryder, all had electrical issues.
Checking the harness is not so easy, usually it's patched ,ECM had been worked on, after a year or so you might noticed unexplained glitches and break down. -
I had a 07 Columbia. The first issue I ever came across with it was the fuse for the ultrashift kept popping at about 800k and reading fault. So I put a paper clip into the fuse slot and said to my self "if it catches fire" then by all means burn mofo. That truck lasted to about 980k before the turbo was replaced and then the xy shifter. Then the trans at like 1.1mill and then sold it. It wasnt the gratest investment but it made money I'm the mean time.
A dyno will let you know a lot about your truck. -
I bought a 2008 Columbia on 2/23/2015 from Ryder, since then i spent $8k and only drove it 20,000 miles because of unexplained glitches.
like others said you might noticed unexplained glitches and break down.
the warranty you bought doesn't cover nothing and if it does it will be at the dealer for a month before the repairs get approved.
