Rawze, I have read many good informative posts from you so i know your legit but this one seemed a bit out of context...if you were referring to Cowpie, Im not sure hes all about KR or not. This thread was a question on glider motors and Cowpie has operated both the n14 and the 12.7, not sure what all this mumbo jumbo has to do with the n14 vrs 12.7.

also lets be fair you cant show your 3k payload trip across country at 55 mph, 10 mpg as a "realistic" average for most of us...

did you not see the 2 months worth of raw data I posted?,...I didn't see anyone else post any raw numbers,....that 2 months of data, I pulled anywhere from 20 - 42K in beat-up 53-ft fleet trailers, with anything from new to junk recap tires on them. I haul real freight, not that light-weight picked-thru stuff. I pull ups,conway,estes,wmart,nestle,averitt,arm-n-hammer,pm,etc,etc,etc... Those guys are notorious for farming out their heavier loads to us. And if there is any doubt left, look at the 2-digit fuel codes. utj = Utah, Flying-J,...txp = trexas pilot,...etc..etc.,...all 48 states.

I actually put my money where my mouth is, backing it with data. It is a rare thing for me to get only a 3k load in a brand new trailer. Rare indeed, so because of that, Yes, it makes me proud to see such insane high numbers. I have seen landstar o/o's who will take that same load and barely touch 7.5 mpg with it, bragging they never haul anything above 15k, using their full skirted fuel efficient trailer. If I did that, easily, my numbers would be a consistent 12+ I think, who knows.

A few years back, I had several different gordon drivers brag and boast about a truck in their fleet that could break 14-mpg. Even with different drivers driving it. I finally spoke to one of their drivers who claimed to have driven it. He himself, claimed he got 10+ with it consistently. It was a fleet-spec'd prostar with an ISX exactly like mine. 3.55 rears, eaton 10, and hendrickson front end,...literally the same down to the detail, even the same year. I even remember someone calling mr KR on the radio about it, where mr KR spouted off that it was impossible, because HE knew everything, and every trick, and HE couldn't do it, so it must be impossible. His words were "Someone is lying, or mis calculating something...", as he went on about it. My truck was barely touching 8 back then, and 10.5 bobtail. I thought to myself, as an engineer, if everything were right, and set for it, 10-ish maybe...I set out, with a serious intent, to get my truck, exactly like that one, to break 10 WITH FREIGHT, no matter what it took. I was convinced it was possible, but like KR, not 14. FF to a few months ago,..when I saw that screen,..and saw 14.1-MPG,...I knew that day,...I had matched, and truck had become the very thing that others said was impossible. This I think is worth posting on these forums, because there are others that will strive to achieve it just like I did. It can be done, but I do not want to give others false hope, so I also back my words with data. FREIGHT HAULING DATA!

I had dropped this thread, and went back to my own to explain my thoughts to leave your discussion here alone. Its over there if you want to read it.

BTW,...forced to choose a C60 or N14,...well,...I despise an N14. The thing reeks of 2nd rate poor german engineering, and yes, I have the background to say this. I was contracted for 12 years by an industrial german engineering company that was NOT 2nd rate by any standards. 5 microns of error off the assembly line, and it got destroyed and sold for scrap.

after reading most of this post all I have to say . build what u want. but if you are not going to run ca. why spend 105K or more on a glider when you can do do the same thing thing for 35 to 50 k less w a good used truck. and do how u want it. your daily mait. costs stay the same. if fuel is all you are worred about drive it 55. as for me I will stay happy with my big kitty big bunk long wheel base long hood and 6.5 mpg. that's paper and pen.mpg.and from KFR site. I like a little comfort in my ride. like being able eat when I want shower when I want, and so on. I could probly get fuel millage if I rode around in a through away truck but don't belive I would save 2 k a year when its all said and done. sorry guys being comfortable on the road is import also. big kitty = apx 1000 hp motor by ynot tune by mr hainy. thank you both

two reasons not everyone can do what you suggest:

financing. VERY easy with a new glider, we had no credit/not good and got approved at 5k down.

Warranty. all inclusive great piece of mind.

Just because someone doesn't run California does not mean they shouldn't do a new glider. That logic is terrible. I suppose that those who never ran CA before all the emissions stuff ever came about had no reason for buying a new truck? Kinda sounds goofy, don't you think? With a new glider, you have all the benefits of a new truck including the warranties, while setting yourself up for fewer headaches. Especially so, in that you are not having to deal with what someone else screwed up before you. And one can do it at substantially lower cost than comparable new production trucks. And so what if they don't run California. You still have the other 48 states (I included Alaska, for those who like to pick), and Canada. The fact that one sliver of the N. American continent is avoided should really not mean much. I have done quite well having stayed away from California since 1998.

I can deal with your set up. Running those lands doesn't call for an 18 sp. Thanks.

In your eyes. Try running some of the hilly two lanes I have to cover with 46,000 in the box combined with the 2.64 rears in mine. There have been a few times that being able to split the bottom has been a benefit. The flexibility is well worth it. The price to put a factory rebuilt 18 in mine compared to a rebuilt 13 was insignificant for the benefit. Much better to have it than to not have it and wish you did.

The 18spd will make your drive line last longer.
