exactly, DD are turds,
-
DD will never hang with a good pulling cat, and cats get good fuel mileage if driven right, pre emission, detriots are just plan Turtle Turds......

I was passing cats all day yesterday with 47,000 in the box. It doesn't mater if you drive it right. A Detroit driven right will get much better mpg then a cat driven right. A Detroit driven bad will get better mpg then a cat driven bad. -
I've.never understood that argument. People who say a cat will do better driven right have no understanding how these engines work and what we are asking them to do.

We talk about Cummins or Detroit for glider kit. Those are best fuel efficient engines we are talking about.

When compared as stock engines, one could argue that a Detroit 60 will not be able to compete favorably with a Cat on the same hill. But when you modify things a little, it is rather amazing how you can get that 12.7 liters pulling. You can make them pull just as well as any Cat or Cummins, and still get great fuel mileage. The 60 has a lot of potential when one wants to really make it into a more serious engine. And it doesn't cost a lot to do it. Just a few minor changes can net some pretty good results. Except for the bull haulers and some others that have their Cats and Cummins engines on steroids, I can keep up or even beat a lot of stock Cats and Cummins on hills, with comparable loads, with my pre-egr 60. I do it every day. I wanted to beat a storm rolling in tonight and get home, so I "put a wiggle in it". I had 47,000 in popcorn in the box. Running I-80 in western Iowa with a 15 mph head/crosswind, I was not passed from Omaha to Des Moines, and I never broke the speed limit except by a few mph on a downhill coast. But I did a lot of passing, even on several up hill pulls. I am not embarrassed in the least that I have a green engine in my truck.
A real good test on this stretch, to see what you have for an engine, is getting on I-680 from I-29 south bound. Anyone who runs that area, know that it is a pretty good pull up that hill on I-680 and you have to start at it from a 30-35 mph access ramp. With that 47,000 lb in the box, with the head/crosswind, before I got to the top I was at 65 mph. That is not too bad with that kind of load. That 12.7 does a real good job. And they say that having the 2.64 rears I have will not pull a hill. Don't let my truck know that.Last edited: Dec 22, 2013

I don't get it 47,000 lbs is barely a load, this trucker mentality is rediculous, because you pass some one on the road you win the race did the other guy know he was racing with you .I think not. These engines are basically the same you waste time and money increasing the horse power of these engines, then you say my dad can beat up your dad, who really cares, In the end it just doesn't matter...............

newer cats junk because of dpf and ACERT turbo settings.
