Shoot I have recievers (and family members of shippers) always asking me If I need an out bound load. Dont have my authority so I refer them to dispatch got the company three new steady costumers last year and we still haul for them.
Rank - I've contacted just under 20. I'm not complaining I didn't realize it would be like this. I thought it would be like back in the day when I see a load I got it the first time around. Shortbuskid- thanks for the info. Definitely not giving up, I find it fun. However personally I would rather be fishing for fish rather than fishing for decent rates. Trout season opened last week, first time in 6 years I missed opening day.
Are you pricing your self out of these loads. I know you want great rates, but over 20 calls and no loads yet? I would rethink my strategy, If it was me. Not sure where your trying to go or leave from but you might want to adjust your rates if no broker is biting on it. Now if your looking for direct shipper than that something else. I pulled my first load from a broker, One that I used all the time when I was leased on to another carrier. Pulled it for $200 more. Sometimes it best to established a good relationship with brokers that way when you step out on your own, they already know what that truck will do.
Got my first load thru networking and staying in contact with guys I drove for in the past. Only had one broker say they couldn't load me because I was new and they required 3 months.
You should try to get the best rate you can get going to an area where rates are good. Figure out where you need to be at per mile and try to average that over your week. You are not going to be able to get it every load on every lane.
