My husband is currently running under a carriers authority. He owns his own tractor but is on a lease to purchase for his flatbed (so he's flexible with getting a different trailer). He's been running under this carriers authority for a year. We are wanting to run under our own authority (we are NOT a team driver, i help coordinate his loads and do office paperwork). I've heard that when you have a new MC/DOT # you have a higher risk of brokers turning you down or offering lower rates (i hear this information from someone who runs under their own authority but runs refer so not sure if there's a difference with the load risk from a brokers perspective). We are currently in the discovery/research phase. Any advice or feedback is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is true in many cases. Some brokers won't book a load with you until you have 6 to 12 months.

CHR will take you from Day 1; Coyote will take you after 30 days, JBH will take you after 180 days...

I found a broker that has so far loaded me twice @ $2.50/mile - no questions asked.

I've not been turned down per se...It's more like "submit your Carrier Package and then silence.

I'm not too worried. Once they have my carrier package, it's all set.

    I see a load, I call...I get the load, I dont get it, I'm not stressing...I'm cool.

That’s the way it goes the first month or so, but it will change eventually. Keep on working and one thing don’t settle for cheap loads. You have a flatbed, it’s a good paying trailer. I have a dry van and til last December the 18,when I did my last load, got a 1.8 and up paying per mile load. It all depends where the load goes. God will guide you and your husband. I wish my wife could help me like you are doing it. Unfortunately she does not speak, read or write English. God bless you.
