Question for all you professional truckers out there. Newly licensed driver. Can’t seem to find a job or anyone to offer training. Did the 200 Melt program got my AZ. But companies seem to ignore me or ghost me. I have a clean cvor that I pulled up. My abstract has a speeding ticket 129km in 100km zone that comes of next year no demerit points on abstract but yet cant get a job with any company not even the career suicide companies most truckers talk about in the threads like bison. I went to their interview which was my 1st interview and i didn’t even get the job because the recruiters said I had no experience with OTR and they hired someone into the driver refresher program who had OTR experience. Even though they said they wanted someone with no experience clearly they want new drivers with experience who somehow are new but have experience into their refresher program. A lot of people I read from have said the program with bison is career suicide and during the interview i did find out their demands were insane. 2 years commitment with no vacation allowed. Minimum wage for three months and a trainer beside you for 2 years. I mean you must really suck to need a trainer for 2 years in trucking.
does anybody know of anyone Canadian companies or owner operators or should I just wait for the speeding ticket to come off my record next summer. In fact I just came into the industry and honestly I was fired up but all the hurdles are slowly starting to turn me away and even thinking i wasted my time getting the AZ. I live in Ontario and all the megas that take new drivers seem to not be hiring even challenger and kriska. Anyone know where new drivers can find opportunities out here in ontario?
New AZ driver in ontario cant seem to get anything going on

Try local jobs to get experience.
Landscaping companies, gravel, cement, garbage etc.
Apply everywhere, knock on doors with resume in hand.
Try local, large warehouses/distribution centers as a yard jockey.
I'm sure some folks from Ontario will be along with suggestions.
Might want to add the general area of Ontario you are in, opportunities in Thunder Bay will be different than the GTA.Phantom Trucker Thanks this. -
I am in southwestern Ontario. Ancaster area. Definitely will apply everywhere. At this point just looking for any training. Want to do flatbed in the long run but will have to wait and break into the industry. Got no kids, never been married so dont mind doing anything and relocating anywhere.

Well if your willing to relocate, lots of jobs here in alberta.
Some train, some don't.
Try sanjel, Cal Frac, Ascent, Trican etc all oil service/support companies. Somebhave company housing as well whole you find a place.
Look on indeed in Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer. Lots of oil truck8ng c9mpanies in these areas. Even Dawson Creek and Fort St John BCAModelCat and muzimbabwe Thank this. -
it’s really tough right now for drivers with no experience trying to get into the industry. Even myself with 16 years experience isn’t getting any calls back . I know kriska will hire new drivers same with challenger . I will tell you everyone who’s in the dryvan /reefer game is slow right now including Kriska . Sucks schneider is no longer in Canada because they were my only option . I just hope you went to a reputable school like humber college because if you just went to any school the mega’s will not touch you
Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -
I got trained by challenger. Even they kept saying the industry was slow and they weren’t hiring because of how slow things are. Im thinking maybe just do the jobs nobody wants, I hear recycling is recession proof, might just do DZ jobs until things turn around.
Canadianhauler21 and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
I know Waste management will hire newer drivers and i think they send you to like florida or Arizona for training .WM is very big on safety and on fellowing rules through. i’ve looked into doing roll off or front loader where you pickup the bins but everyone wants minimum of 1 year experience in those fields
I just got a call today saying no work and i work for a mega carrier and there’s only 2 drivers me and another guy on nights . It’s very slow in the general freight market and really a bad time for a newbie trying to get into the marketAlbertaflatbed Thanks this. -
Was the AZ MELT course through a TTSAO-recognized school? I went through one of those and secured a driving job less than three months after I got my AZ license (I also had experience driving regular straight trucks, so that helped).
Some of the schools out there are sketchy. They'll pack students into the cab for the driving portion of their training and count the time you sit there watching someone else drive as you actually driving. Employers know this. -
Start calling those small Indian companies that are everywhere. Yes I know it's not the best option but they will take you since they take fresh meat all the time.
It is not slow right now that's just ########.
What happened is foreigners came to this country and took all the driving jobs working for super cheap. They work for a year and then quit and then new ones take their place. That's why gigg, charger, have only Indian drivers in case you have not noticed. There's lots of small companies in the Brampton area You could get on with as long as they pay you that's all that matters for the first year. -
Never plea guilty to a year speeding tickets always try and fight them. I'd recommend jobs on Kijiji considering your situation. There are even some Owner operators in certain situations who have trucks and can't drive them so their looking for drivers.
