[h=5]Looking at for new boots.... Think I know what brand I want (Cat)...I am undecided on steel toe or not. I currently use soft toe because I think I would rather smash my foot than get them cut off and I believe they are warmer. This is with the potential of 1000's of pounds falling on a foot not 100's of pounds. What is everyone's opinion?[/h]

I am pretty strictly soft toe. Tried steel toe, and didn't like how fast the leather wore away showing steel all the time. Might give steel toe another try, if I can get some tough toe applied before wearing.

I like Redwings, seem to keep feet dryer longer, and keep dirt out from seams longer than others. No matter what brand, I have to put gel work insoles in them after a month. Makes a new boot out of them, and I feel less fatigue at the end of the day.

I personally dont care for CAT boots, really didnt find them comfortable. I have had a pair of CAT, Timberland and Red Wing. Even though a little more expensive, the Red Wings were by far the best. They have last me OVER a year and still have plenty of life left in them. All my other boots are lucky to make it a year. I have the steel toe Red Wings and haven't really ever complained that they are too hot. I have noticed on some summer evenings my feet are a little damp (not bad though).

I don't Like Red Wing boots,,, Had them years ago and they didn't last 6 months. I like to get at least a year out of boots. I've been using Wolverine boots for the last few years and they make Cat boots. I can get a good deal on Cat boots through the dealer here.... about 10% lower than amazon.

Surprised, considering me and another guy both praised. If you can get CAT for cheap give them a whirl, why not?

If Red wing only lasted you 6 months , then expect about 2 months out of Cat.

Just like everything else. People either love or hate Red Wings. In My eyes for what they cost and how long they last its not worth the investment.

I've heard people whine about the price before, but your the first I ever heard challenge the durability.

One of my bad habits is over thinking and searching forever before I make a decision esp. on a purchase...Been searching this the last few hours and I've seen more than a few bad reviews on them...I've also discovered that most boots are made in China...Including most Red Wing products.
