Much easier to get to I-5 from Hwy 58 now.

Since the 58 is being finished all the way from Barstow to the 5, i wonder if CA will try to get it renamed to I-40 to get a bunch of Federal Interstate monies?

58 would need to upgraded between Rosedale and I-5,it narrows down to a two lane road.

Also, all of the intersections between 395 and 14 would have to be bridged with off-ramps and on-ramps. It doesn't seem like there would be a large amount of work that needs to be done to get the interstate designation. Extending I-40 all the way to I-5 makes a lot of sense.
