New Camera System Coming to all company trucks.

It's all about saving the carrier money. It isn't going to matter if they loose a few drivers if it will save them money from liability suits or whatnot. It isn't some plastic doughnut conspiracy, it's all about long term profit.

Picture yourself as a large carrier that is hiring like mad. Sure you have some selective criteria but you are going to get quite a bit from the bottom of the barrel, and it can really mess you up. What are you going to do? Sink or swim.

 

I don't know. Some things make more sense. The low freight when it should be picking up. The recent pay increase. Swift knows they will lose drivers, so they have extra people right now. They offered a competitive starting rate to help with retention, because, yes, newer drivers can go elsewhere, but will they get the pay. We will see what happens when the program rolls out...

 

All the bottom feeders will go that route at some point.

 

But as Swift raises pay so does everyone else.
It is a static playing field in that area.

The 'low freight' could be a result of too many new drivers, as you have indicated. And they may be increasing that number in anticipation of drivers quitting because of the cameras.

I really don't care.
I can find work elsewhere, probably at better pay, and Swift will lose a safe driver.
If they don't care about that, well, oh well.
I think it will bite them in the end. Time will tell.

 

All you got to do is go to a truck show and get offers. When I was at MATS I got 6 offers when I was not even looking. Hell I might make the move anyways as I was offered a 12 cpm raise over swift with the same average miles. Also they have a pet policy and apus

 

Offers at a truck show is not exactly money in the bank.

 

no but the guy has called twice since seeing if i still will accept the offer.

 

What doesn't make sense to me is why Swift would do something that would make drivers leave when it is so easy to find work elsewhere.
And not new drivers, but their experienced and long term drivers.

It just boggles my mind. It just does not compute.

 

You're smarter than that. You know why. Because there's a bunch waiting to come drive. Push out the higher earners and you've got low wage newbies in their place.

 

And also with the drivers with the most accidents and service failures.

It's like shooting yourself in the foot, or cutting off your nose to spite your face.
