Good thread, now my opinion...a total violation of one's privacy. I would never drive OTR with an interior camera with audio capability. Driving OTR, my truck is my home and I expect some measure of privacy within my home. If I was running a daycab and went home every night, that would be much different. When will the insanity end? Just my opinion...

Why is it that you drive a truck?
There is no right or wrong answer.
That will play a huge role in your attitude I suppose.
For those who got in to the business for the solitude and absence of micro management it could be a huge issue I suppose.
For some this may be no attraction at all.
I have found that there are people that are very capable but are happier being regularly guided by input and have their actions evaluated all the time.
Seems to make them more secure or something. -
The day I cannot find a company that doesn't use driver camera, is the day I'll end my career truck driving. And this fabricated 400,000 driver shortage by 2020 the industry talks about is probably going to double... thanks to insurance companies... and isn't swift big enough to insure themselves? So this is just a low blow if that's the case. They pay .36 CPM right after training, which was really tempting, but I'd rather take a pay cut and work for a company that doesn't invade your privacy, curtain or no curtain, that's just ##'n creepy.

I'm at a terminal right now and I was just outside talking to a Swiftie with 11 years experience. He is a trainer and even has a student on his truck now.
He said what a lot of us are thinking, the day that camera gets installed we are gone. Really a shame that someone thinks this idea will do anything other than causing them to lose experienced drivers.
Just look at the job and lifestyle we choose as truckers. We are independent, private individuals that like our solitude. Most of us think of our trucks as our second home and some of us, me included, consider our truck our primary home. I don't care what Swift says about when this camera will record, if I can't personally monitor and view what is recorded and when it records then it is an invasion of my privacy. We aren't driving taxis or limos here, we are driving a vehicle that is basically a moving domicile, a mobile residence - even if temporary. Someone has to put their foot down and say enough is enough already.
I hope this move is retracted or I'm gone as soon as I know my truck is going into the shop to get it installed.reefertank, OceanDan, sisterannie and 1 other person Thank this. -
