What colleges are you looking at? There are so many online colleges now. I saw one on Facebook about learning a criminal justice degree to work in homeland security. If you can after knocking out some general classes go to a university setting. I've had some amazing experiences studying about behavior and development not to mention the fun I had living in a fraternity house. Do what you can but go for gold.

Unfortunately I have lost a lot of confidence in myself as a strictly academic man. I have always loved working on my cars changing everything from radios to gas tanks, fuel pumps, radiators, air conditioner, fuel lines, bumpers, possibly more but I can't remember. I've always loved driving short and long distances, and I consider myself seasoned in the art of backing a trailer albeit a 5 foot trailer with a four Wheeler ATV (haha).

I hear you Numbers. I just finished up 10 straight years in college. Well, almost finished, I got my BA in 2007 stayed there for an MA in 2009 then went to Canada for my PhD. I am trying to find a job but it's still not easy. So I was looking at my options and am now looking into trucking. I have to get my CDL (which I will be starting soon) and I get calls daily from recruiters. I guess I am not your average college grad looking to move into trucking, as I will be 47 in Oct. I joined the army right out of HS, spent 7 years jumping from planes and helicopters like an idiot, then was in law enforcement and corrections after that. I always wished I had gone to college and, not being one to let anything stand in my way, I went into a university in 03. Meant to stay the 4 years and scoot, but I got into the whole thing and, well, call me (almost) Dr. trucker wannabe, I guess. I still look at my degrees on the wall from time to time and think, geeze, I did it.

So, I said all that to say this... you are correct, once you get it, they can never take your education from you. And, when times are better economically, it might even pay off, lol. But, as I am not made of money, I took out lots of loans and now I need to start paying them back. What better way than by willingly subjecting myself to indentured servitude? At least I will get to see stuff.
