Hello, I recently obtained my CDL-A with a HAZMAT endorsement. I found out when I went to apply for a job that they want me to already have 120 hours of seat time. I couldn't pay the 10k they wanted at the fancy truck schools so I studied at home, took classes that i felt I needed and then took the test. I figured I would get the rest of my training from one of the big companies that claim they will train but that's a little misleading as I found out. I am a 47 y/o white male, hard working, clean, responsible and easy to get along with. Just trying to start a new career ya know. After a whole lot of exhausting rejection I figure I need an owner operator that I can run with and achieve my seat time. I don't ask for much and I am available to run for months if you need me to. So my question is: are there any o/o that would be willing to take me on? I am currently located in the Phoenix AZ area.

Maybe Eagle KMC Transportation will help. Probably do a refresher and drive a dry van for awhile, then switch to their fuel tankers.

You already have a cdl, so can be fast tracked through a training program. Southwest Truck Driver Training in Phoenix has financing available for their school, then when get your diploma, hire on with a company that has tuition reimbursement. They pay you in monthly installments to reimburse the tuition. -
Thank you much. I will check it out. I am aware of the school financing but trying not to make an already long road longer..

They don't want you to have 120 hours of seat time, they want 120 hours of classroom time.
And I'm pretty sure it's 160 hours.
Go down to CEMEX on 19th AVE or the one on the north side.
The area managers name is TY.
He may give you a shot.
I can think of no one that will give you a shot without at least 3 months of wheel time with a clean record.
You can also try the local teamsters. CEMEX is teamsters btw, but go over to the local, sometimes ABF will put people through training, but you may be a little long in the tooth for them.snowmantrucking101 Thanks this. -
It's going to be difficult finding an 0/0 to help; not impossible, but difficult, due to Elogs and insurance regulations. One little mistake and that 0/0 can lose everything he's worked for.
Roehl Transport - may still have a school in Phoenix. They pay the students $500.00 weekly to attend their school. That $500 is not a pay advance either like some companies do. It's your paycheck because you're an employee from day one.
Contract Freighters - www.cfidrive.com - hires Phoenix drivers and has their own schooling. You're ahead of the game since you already have a cdl.
Swift and Knight have merged - probably both will hire you. Do you want a red truck or a white truck; that's the difference in the two.
Stevens Transport - www.stevenstransport.com - probably ship you to Denver for their school. -
Ya, it depends on the company but I just got back from Covenant orientation and they wanted 120 hrs of seat time. They sent me home on the last day when they finally decided that they didn't approve of the school I went to. I told them from day one and they still strung me along. I even passed their road test. Go Figure!

The other thing, Covenant, how very Christian of them to screw with you like that.Express12$, Just passing by and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
So, you started kinda the way I did back in the day. I had a friend who taught me. I spent 6 months at a rag of a company filled with outlaws and criminals that couldn’t get hired on anywhere else. Those kind of companies still exist, you just have to look for the outfits with old mega fleet trucks that look like they have been run through the ringer.
