There is no truck driver shortage.
Media & trucking associations have been rerunning that fake story for 5-10 years to get favors from govt & advertisers.
Your weight is an issue. ALL newbies are having a hard time finding jobs. The industry is very slow so newbies are less desirable.born&raisedintheusa, firemedic2816, ducnut and 3 others Thank this. -
I changed jobs recently after several years at my previous employer. Even I had a heck of a time finding something with over 12 years experience. I must have submitted dozens of applications and had several interviews before I landed where I'm at now.

As far as larger companies I've applied to already:
* Marvin Keller Transportation (Haven't heard back even though they sent a recruiter)
* DOT Foods (Passed on my application, again despite sending a recruiter my school)
* DriveLine Solutions
* Beelman Truck Co
* WME Express
I've also sent out a bunch of applications to smaller regionals and even some local OTR companies. Basically anything that popped up on Indeed.
I guess I'll have to send applications out to those other companies Chinatown listed, I was under the impression generally I needed to live within a certain radius of the terminal but maybe I am misunderstanding how this works. I had seen Western Express earlier in my job search but one of my instructors had mentioned Western Express was a terrible company that will #### you over in an instant for the smallest reason so I didn't apply. Guess I'm reaching the "begger can't be choosers" portion of my job search so I guess I'll send an application over to them.
The confounding thing is both WME and DriveLine literally had in their job listings No Experience Required/New Drivers Welcome, and I didn't even so much as get a call from them. That combined with the fact even the recruiter companies passed is what had me kind of wondering if companies are holding off hiring due to the current economic instability the last week or so (especially given Tariffs I imagine have a profound impact on freight volume)born&raisedintheusa, Concorde and FullMetalJacket Thank this. -

Market has been in the dumps for over 2yrs & carriers can now be very selective. Some have gone under, others are cutting hours or laying off.
Definately got a sales snow job from school. There is currently not a shortage of drivers & really never has been. That's just a lie that has been created & perpetutuated by the ATA & large concerns.
Keep at it with research & applications. I'm sure you will eventually find something. It will definately be some effort on your end. But, none will be tripping over themselves to find you.
Starting out isn't the easiest, but if you can get your foot in the door opportunities will expand after a year or so of experience & a clean record.born&raisedintheusa, mjd4277, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this. -
