Good morning everyone. I recently got my CDL-A and have completed all my endorsements(hazmat,tanker,doubles/triples). Looking for a career change into the trucking field, i have done hotshot trucking in the past. My question is,
Is it a standard for truckers to start with mega companies then move on to more local or specialized positions? I am looking at running propane locally, running to the oilfields(oil or frac sand) or other hazmat. Ive noticed from my job hunt that those kind of specialized positions require more experience and its to my observation that only mega companies hire recent grads. Really looking to be a trucker and not just a steering wheel holder.
Thanks in advance
New CDL holder looking to start out

You gotta say location estes, fedex freight, yrc, xpo, and probably other ltl hire new grads

Apply to any company you prefer. This is the way many new drivers land good jobs they prefer, right out of cdl school.
Apply, even if you don't think you will be hired.
For example, one new cdl grad wanted to work for Clean Harbors. The ad had "2 yrs. experience required."
He applied anyway and was hired. -
Are you near Phoenix or Tucson?
If so, here's a tanker outfit that hires new cdl school grads.

Yeah apply anywhere. Apply in person if possible for local jobs. (FYI truck lanes between PHX and L.A. harbor abound.) You home almost daily.
