Well have been away awhile my laptop took a dump so here is the latest.Have been at NC for a lil over 5 months now and am still very happy here.It is very hard work here because it is LTL freight but the pay is very good and thats why i'm here. The company has its negatives dispatch and maintenance come to mind but I just have learned to deal with it,as for the future I dont worry about it no job is guarnteed in this day and time.I know the company has lost a lot of the older drivers in my opinion because they couldn't make the money they were making when guys didn't have to run legal.Bottom line I'm happy here but if you cant roll with the punches and let things roll off ya back then this is probably not the place for you.

It's all about your attitude at NCT. Sargetom has it right. I wasn't wild when they bought us out 3+ years ago, but you make the best of your situation. Work as hard as you can for each dispatcher and you will develop a good relationship with each over time. They have enough whiners (we're seen some of them on this thread) to put up with that you can make your way by just doing your job and being on time. My granddaddy always said you get further with honey than with vinegar in dealing with people, and that's not sugar-coating it--that's life.
And housecat, the bonus is $1500 (prorated if there less than the full year) paid out on the last Friday before Christmas. Your 5 personal days (also prorated for less than full year) are paid out the Friday previous to that. Between them, they come at nice time to pay for Christmas. Mushroom, you'll have a vacation week available after Jan 1, and 2 weeks after Jan 1, 2012.
Work steady, and you can make $70-80k easily. They just will not hold your hand and be nice to you. That's not the South Jersey style.
Also, maintenence has somewhat improved, with PMs due at 30k. If you're out just call breakdown and they'll authorize a Speedco or TA on the road. Do PMs that way, then go to Willingboro shop's express lane to get quick items fixed at the yard.
You've been here 5 months. You'll know most of the tricks by time you hit 1 year (dispatchers, and the "NCT Way.") Good luck.housecat, LooneyTune and MoneyCat Thank this. -
Hey Mushroom.... I'm back to driving and started with New Century on the 15th of this month. Everyone has been honest and upfront. Got 400 dollars for orientation pay and they didn't play no games... got my offer sheet for employment and the correct pay was right on there. The Holiday Inn Express was nice and I especially liked the idea of going out with a local driver on his shift to get some hands on training. It really helped. I got an 07 KW T600. Nice truck, although the storage space could be better.
So far my loads have been 9 stop load with the final in Des Moines
Straight load from Ames, IA to Lansing, MI
And down to Toledo for an 8 stopper finalling in Rockford, IL in the morning.... which I got to go home for a couple of days.
I really have no complaints so far. I'm sure there will be times that things won't go so smooth, but this is trucking and it comes with the territory. Take care everyone, be safe. -
thx sw 74431. nct could be better some days but it has lot to do with what i put into the job. just like you said also. after the years i have been here i pretty much do what i want and run where i want. being on time, no accidents, and just plain getting the job done works here. stay out of the office and away from the rumors and gripers and things go well here. just back from vacation last week and coasting till end of year. you new drivers hang in there...dispatch can drive you crazy somedays but it doesn't last long. for those that complain about the IPO...i hope they get it done. get rid of the debt load and get the new trucks they want in 2011 works for this old road dog. have my accoutant (and ex IRS auditor) wife going over it... so far looks legit. well be safe out there all.
LooneyTune Thanks this. -
Home for the holidays is one thing I have to say is wonderful! NCT said I wouldn't make it for Thanksgiving but then, got me home even though I didn't ask for it! Also was here before Christmas day (there have been times that hasn't happened at other companies I've worked for). I like it here. It has been 5 months so far for me and I expect to be here awhile! Planning multi stop days can still be a challenge for me, but this is my first ltl job. When I call with issues the dispatchers are always frank and to the point, but if they can, they do help with any issues I have. Thanks for clarifying sw74431! Maybe I'll cya around sometimes! (I'm in 74425) My apu went out on me two weeks ago and they immediately turned my idle back on, so I didn't have to sleep in the cold. (again, something another company has made me wait for in the past) Happy Holidays to everyone and safe roads ahead for 2011!

what happened to this thread, come on let's hear some updates on NCT!
-
I have orientation in a couple weeks and would also like to hear some updates. -
Well, when nct keeping you so busy, you dont have time to do updates.

Well this is Mushroom's thread so it's best to let him give you most of the details but from my experience so far they seem like a pretty good company. They have their negatives(the way they do payroll comes to mind) but I like them so far. The regular dispatchers I deal with the most especially the ones for the midwest are a pretty good group of people. A few of the dispatchers can be a little intense but with an LTL operation like this that is to be expected. With my stops I average around 55 cents a mile gross. Right now I have a ten stop load that finals out in Miami on Tuesday.
NCT PA, you'll find that Mushroom and the other current NCT drivers on here won't b.s. you. When we see problems we definitely will let everyone know about them. Overall, I'm glad I came over here.Last edited: Jan 16, 2011
