Hi All,
New CDL driver here.. Cleared my exam just last week and looking for a job in the Edmonton,AB region. Most driver mentor programs I’ve reached out to are based in Calgary, Winnipeg or the Ontario region. My only “successful” leads were from Challenger- asked to call back in January and Arnold Bros who mentioned the driver mentorship program is only available in Winnipeg.
I’m open to all kinds of local trucking jobs at the moment incl. yard/fleet shunting, driver helper, gravel hauling..
Would appreciate all your leads/advice.
Thank you.

it’s a tough market out there right now for everyone not just newbies looking to get a start as freight is still slow . Even drivers like my self with 16 years experience and clean record aren’t getting calls back . Have you looked into Bison not the greatest company but if you can get atleast 1 year driving experience it will open up more doors later on . Being fresh out of school with no experience is going to be real tough getting hired because of insurance requirements companies have to fellow . My advice is apply to everyone and everything not just tractor trailer jobs . look at roll off ,box truck , cement truck or garbage truck driving jobs like waste management who will train you
There’s atleast 1 newbie a month on this fourm asking the same question as you trying to get a start so it’s not just you having a hard timeLast edited: Sep 13, 2024

Tag logistics in Acheson maybe?
Highway 9
Red Carpet
Check indeed and apply on everything thst interests you, regardless of what the ad says, sometimes you get lucky.
Try some of the smaller companies, knock on doors, resume in hand. Hit Nisku or Acheson depending on what's handy/preferred.
Use Google maps and Google "trucking companies", then go visit.
There is a scaffold place on 50th street just north of whitemud drive, they have a big billboard up hiring drivers...can't remember the name.
Check out the oil service companies: sanjel, magnum, cal frac etc.
Something will fall into place for you.Oxbow, TopGunTopFan and d o g Thank this. -
I did read about quite a few range road projects throughout parts of Edmonton planned for the next decade or so plan to find out more about the contractors being awarded.. Does gravel hauling slow down over the winter mainly due to the soil and earth freezing over?Albertaflatbed Thanks this. -

As others have posted, you need to get your foot in the door, somewhere. Local city work is probably the best idea. You need to get in anywhere to get experience. Be safe, work smart and stay accident and incident free for two years. Hopefully the market picks back up soon.
TopGunTopFan and Albertaflatbed Thank this. -
Alberta Drywall is the place I was thinking of on 50th street just north of Roper road, west side of street. They do scaffolding, drywall, ladders, bunch of stuff.
Rene transport in nisku (might be on the leduc side)
Check the steel suppliers in leduc/nisku
Cement trucks run year round and they have both class1 and class 3 trucks. Several companies in leduc/nisku area.
Consider Sherwood park companies as well, a bunch are located north of hwy 16 east of the anthony henday.
WTI
Trimac
KAG
Lots more.TopGunTopFan Thanks this. -
