Hey everyone. New member here. I currently live in Central Alabama and I have just finished my 8 week CDL Driving School. I recently just got my Class A CDL License last week and for the past few days I have been looking for companies to go to work for. I have reached out to a local Trucking companyand it looks as if I will be attending their orientation Monday morning. I will be with a trainer for 10 weeks they are telling me and I do not mind that one bit being with someone to lean the ropes with OTR. I course with me just starting out I do not expect to be making top tier money at the moment. With someone starting out and driving with a trainer what is a fair CPM rate? I Have not asked a lot of questions with the company as I am not really sure what to ask. Any help would greatly be appreciated. One other question if you are asked to attend an orientation then are you pretty much in the door or is there other things they will consider after you show up? In my case this will be a 4 day orientation.

Question, why wouldn't you expect to make top tier money? There's guys on here that made good money from the get go. I started around 2005 in local dirt hauling and within six months had the best paying gig in the company. All I did was show up and do my job. Amazing how far that'll take you these days. Don't settle for less unless it suits your current needs or leads you to your goal.
    Good luck.

Thanks. I am just new at this. I know I will make more money with the more experience I get under my belt. I’ll be paid around .32CPM. The CPM is my seat time and my trainers seat time driving.

I’m new as well, but I’ve been researching companies, pay, policies, blah blah for a year before getting my CDL. Let me tell you brother, 32 cents is low even for a rookie. That’s what 2nd chance companies pay to help rebuild your image.

Download the Indeed job app, look at the jobs portion of this website, look on Craigslist, and look at AllTruckingJobs. Every single company name that you see, go to their website and then search for jobs in your area.

You’ll see that there will be 5+ companies in your area that will hire you fresh out of CDL school and almost all of them will pay more. Some of the mega companies have local/regional/dedicated routes that’ll pay you $1500-2000 a week fresh out of Cdl school. It depends on where you live and what’s available there.

Now if you happen to not find anything that pays more (which would be hard not to), keep track of which companies hire you with only 3 months experience. A lot of them do. As soon as you get your 3 months, jump ship. Most I’ve seen are paying around 60 cents a mile.

Oh and another benefit is I’ve found a lot of companies that only have short 1 week orientations (you can ask for more help if you need it) so you’re not being used as cheap labor for 2 months with a trainer.
