    Hi all,
Just got my class A with Hazmat, tanker, and double triples. [No schooling passed first try!] What a relief. LOL. I did have driving exp 20 yrs ago so it wasn't totally new to me.[wheat harvest grain truck[
My question is I may have the chance to drive for a small co with 38 ft dumps or a small co that runs tankers with hazmat. How much more marketable will I be if I get the tanker job than with just dump experience in a yr from now?
I'll let ya know what happens.
    Thanks everyone.

    Congrats Stringduster

I would say that the tanker job will keep you going better than the dump. The reason I say this is because with the dumping ind, its gonna rely on building, contruction, etc.
With the tanker you should always have something to haul. Just my opinion :yes2557:

Either way be safe and becareful out there

Tankers take more training to learn and just about every tanker company wants experience. With tankers you can have the option of OTR or local too and the local jobs will pay the same or better with some companies. Hands down tankers are the way for you.

Thanks Dalton Gang and GasHauler. I really would love to do the tanker route if at all possible, so will persue that in the future with a little more experience behind me if it does not work out right now.
I'll let you know what happens.
Good luck Dalton Gang with your schooling, hope it opens opportunites for you.

I've read all the other postings about how bad the pay is and I do agree it's not worth a darn right now. But with tankers, a clean record, and a little luck I did good. I ended at my goal job and stayed their before I took the golden handshake and retired early. But here's what we got paid back in 2000.

$23.50 an hour. We worked 4 10 hours days. Anything over 40 hours is time and half. We could work a day of overtime any time we wanted so you could pick up another $25K a year just in OT. A 60 hour week grossed over $1600. It was a great job and I'm sure there's plenty of them out there. You just have to be lucky to find them and wait until someone retires. But you have to get specialized and always have a clean record.
