Hi to you all - I'm scheduled to start orientation class in Joplin, Mo. Dec.15. Is there much of a wait on a trainer to go out with from there?
I've been reading the Truckers Report concerning several Con-Way terminals closing down - Is that affecting driver milage amounts. Lastly,
would team driving be a better way to start out to get the miles with
Con-Way. Thanks for your replys.![]()

I started driving with them and had 8 in my orientation. We were all with trainers withing 48 hours of completing orientation so it wasn't long at all.
As far as teams, I did it and it was definitely where the money was. I brought home 1200 or so a week after taxes running teams. Usually only made half that when I was solo and sometimes less. I think my lowest team paycheck was 900 bucks and I had been off part of that week. -
Thanks for the quick reply. Is there any noticeable backlash from the ecomonic slowdown. The reason I choose truck driving aside from being interested in over-the-road driving was because I'm totally out of work here in Tampa, Fl. Team driving sounds like a burnout but I figure it to be the best way to get the miles and experience.

Team driving shouldn't be all that bad, as long as you get along well with your teammate. ME and my brother will be starting soon enough. We used to deliver high end cars with an F450 and a 25ft race trailer and we loved driving long distances together. It was a blast.

From what I have heard the backlash from the economic slowdown is pretty harsh.
I don't drive OTR anymore although at times I think about calling up my old team mate and heading back to Conway. It's the only way I Would ever do it again because it's the only way I made enough money to warrant sleeping in a truck instead of my bed. I started hauling tanks now and the money is nice but I do occasionally miss being OTR.
No way would I ever even bother with it again solo however unless I was an O/O because I worked for two of the "best" companies out there solo and all it did was put me in the poor house. Teaming made me plenty of cash though.
Good luck either way though man and I hope you enjoy it.
Did you go to one of Conway's schools? (Central Tech or Crowder)? -
Best to you on Thanksgiving!

I was told on Tues. 25th I was scheduled for Dec. 15th orientation then Christine calls the 26th to say shes sooo sorry but the Dec 15th class has been closed and the next class would not be until Jan. which would put me past 30 days after graduation so good by to Con-Way. Obviously they had to make room for someonw else and I was the expense. Oh well

I had one recruiter from a company ask me if I could wait until after the holiday's to begin training with them. I have had more than one tell me that...wait until after the 1st of the year if not until March when they expect things to slowly improve with the economy..........

To notarps4me and chaser1. I was asking about the 30 day expiration time Christine told me would expire after my graduation Nov. 23rd. Thus the next orientation which is in Jan. 09 would be too late for me. My question: Has anyone been denied because of the 30 day rule? Not that it matters - I've been denied by the No.1 company I wanted to work for and thats that. Move-n on.
