This reeks of planned discrimination. You can appear to be fit to drive, but do appearances really qualify that person TOO drive.

Casing point. I am a Overweight driver. I realize that I can not drive again till I shed alot of weight. Yet there was a job offer that I went too when I was lighter. I went to the interview when I had zero miles driven and was told there were no openings available. Yet when I was on the way out the door, the human resources gal had the ability to insult me by offering a skinny fellow the job that was not available. The comical item was, the kid had told me previously he could not drive anymore as he had 6 prior OUI convictions. Yet because the kid fit "the profile"..................
shriner75, shikauhr1 and Everett Thank this.

I hear ya, When I was going to school for my CDL I was passed by many companies because they saw that I had a gastric bypass. Even though my Dr., surgeon, and physical herapy trainer (help me get back in shape and use unused mucscles) all gave me letters that supported me, I was passed. Finally Werner gave in and took me in. I gave them the best 4 months but alas my mother in laws fight with cancer was not looking good. I came home and have no regrets even though werner tarnished my dac a bit. Family is 1st.

I see nothing there, that wasn't implied/enforced in earlier fitness examines. By updating their mission and vision statement, they seek only to appease the public.

Carriers can apply a higher standard...the Fed only regulates minimum standards. Trust me, I've had examines that I thought were way above intrusive or discriminatory. I didn't like them...But they were required by my employers.
    CondoCruiser and shriner75 Thank this.

Unfortunately, most of these guidelines are too open to interpretation by the examining Doctor.

If you have certain mild arthritis or old injuries that limit your movement at certain times....this can disqualify you.

I've been through some of the "Tests" that prove that you're qualified for range of motion etc and I've NEVER done anything close to the test they required while I was operating the truck.

I am extremely obese and these requirements are a lot less than I have gone through on new hire tests. The only real difference I saw was the ETT and the sleep apnea testing.
