Anyone know what the new requirements are?
I have my physical scheduled for Roehl and I asked if it would include a sleep study. they said depends on the new regs.

any info? is it more then BMI and Neck size and the couple questions?

As of this writing - no regulation or new guidelines have been published by the FMCSA for Sleep apnea.

There are no regs, it's what roehl wants. They determine if you need a sleep study to work for them.

    Actually it's 35 BMI. And it's just weight/height. So it's very inaccurate.

If it's marked by the doctor they will ask you to get a sleep study done and a sleep apnea machine which can be expensive. Not sure about roehl but there are some companies that will help with it.

This was the rule before Congress slapped the hands of the FMCSA and they pulled the guidelines. The problem is many clinics and motor carriers set up all of this infrastructure and have just ignored this and continued to refuse to give medical cards. They use vague language on the new physical forms as their justification.

Oh it's not law. It's recommended for the physicals but you won't find one that will ignore it. To much liability involved for the clinics and carriers. And with the new long forms you can't really get around it. So it's really 35.

There are many examiners that don't get too upset about it. My last physical I got was here in VA so I could get my CDL transferred here. The Physician that did it asked how my sleep was I said OK and that was the end of it. If you take the time to study these forums you will see several posts where drivers got physicals without these problems. And for the record right now there is NO guidelines.

Just to avoid further debate on this guideline subject it is important to remember something important. If you are overweight and go into a urgent care place or a large walk in clinic you will in most cases be told to get a sleep study. It is not because of language on the new forms. It is because most of the owners of these places have put large sums of money into sleep labs across the country. In anything if you want to see the truth FOLLOW THE MONEY.
