Im looking to buying a 3 axle DD. Ive ran across one and I'm sorta haggling on the price but, my only concern is the center of it is open..... Would I run into issues of not being able to load at different places because of this? Ive looked for someone out on the road who has one but Ive yet to see one the past 2 weeks.....

Edit to add: some people say Double drop others say RGN.... I mean RGN...

If the trailer is rigged for outriggers then chances are the "open area" is where you store your outrigger decking boards when not in use. ask about the boards from the dealer, he may have options such as oak or aluminum

Yes you will run into a very small number of places that may not load you. However, the vast majority won’t care. The open center will save you some weight and make other things easier to tie down. A lot of times you can put a bottom tarp down if is a tarp load.

You can always add the decking in the future if you feel you are losing a significant number of loads.

I would much more concerned will well length, deck height and concentrated weight rating

    Mechanical or Hydro?

If mechanical, invest in having a really good set of ramps on your truck - not the stupid short and steep one side you will see.

I had a 35 Ton mechanical - had lots of fun with it. Be careful, the rates have been beat up on those pretty good .

can you give a link to some ramps? I assume you mean the ramps on the front?

    No

The ramps on the back of the frame of your truck - the rollers on the front of the neck ride up the ramps to lift the trailer so the kingpin will hook to the fifth wheel.

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Few examples . Dad's truck when I was coming up , had a ramp set up close to the middle pic. He could pick up a loaded van dropped with the landing gear up.
