If you were offered a job as a new driver but the company encouraged you or desired you to get your Fast card would you ask them to pay for it?

The Free And Secure Trade Card, better known as the FAST Card, is part of a program designed to expedite handling of shipments through customs between the United States and Canada.

Was a new one to me also, but a quick search came up with this.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAST_CARD

I have no real ideal for the process to get one, but it looks like a way for the government to get another fingerprint and background check from you. That will make 3 for those who have Hazmat and TWIC cards.

And to the OP yes I would ask them to pay for it. If they will not pay, then it would depend on the job.

Sure I would. Failing that I would ask them to put it in writing that they reimburse the cost of the FAST card after a year of employment.

Remember that unless you are moving FAST qualified freight and use the FAST lane @ Customs the card has ZERO value so why would YOU pay for it.

I tend to agree with you. But a lot of these Canadian companies are putting Fast card or willingness to obtain a Fast card as Job prerequisites these days. I mean I think it's only 50$ and follows me to whatever company I go to. But as a new driver, funds are limited and I can barely afford the Rand McNally road atlas lol.
