New driver going crazy OTR

You never watched the movie Blackdog have you ??? It specifically mentions what happens when drivers get greedy, pushing too hard... eventually it comes to take It away from you.....usually in the form of falling asleep and crashing...

Do you need HOME time or just some REST time ?
I’m currently getting in a 34 hour reset but I’m in a real nice Hilton hotel with lots of nice restaurants in the area. If you need home time tell your company and if you can’t get home go up the company ladder and if that doesn’t work time to look for a new job.

 

I signed on with a company that gives me 3 days home time after 2 weeks. If I need more all I have to do is ask.

 

Work life balance my friend and your sanity is most important. Doesn't do your bank account or you any good to burn yourself out. Get out the truck, you need time to de-stress and unwind, time to assimilate back into the real world, recharge your batteries so you look forward to going back out. My max I found is 3 weeks. I've tried 4 and start getting to cranky and missing my peoples.

 

Most trucking companies won’t go for it, but psychologically they best schedule to run for me is 10-14 days out and then 4 full days off…Now of course I can get by and sustain myself taking far less days off, but I found that if I want to to do this well into my retirement years, this is the best way to keep my sanity level long-term.
I don’t agree with trucking companies who use the reset as “days off” By the time you get situated, get your truck organized and your stuff off it put into your vehicle drive home, probably plop down on the couch and fall asleep for a few hours it’s already time to start thinking about getting back on the truck. That’s not quality time off.

The company I work for now is big on “drive 5-6 days take a reset” I fight them on this schedule. Sometimes I keep rolling, sometimes not. I told them I’d rather stay out at least another week and go home for some real days off. They don’t like it. Too bad.

 

Oh please, quit whining.
You either want the money or the hometime.
You chose the money.
Don't blame the job.

MANY Drivers have never experienced such "calamities" of being "greedy".
I was One!
I didn't, very often, "push too hard" but when I did, only had some "hallucinations" at Night.
Seeing Mountains and other things (no u.f.o.'s), so pulled off and had a rest bit.

I thought the movie was rather humorous considering these bits:
Starting The Truck and IMMEDIATELY releasing Brakes.
The "fight" where some chap disconnected BOTH Air Lines on the Trailer yet Combo maintained the Speed without Trailer Brakes Locked.
Crashing Through a Mobile Home without ANY Damage.
Crossing Medians without any problems.
Yeah, sure, "depicting Real Truck Driving".
