    HI,

    I'm an older trucker with a million plus some out on the big road coast to coast.

    Why on earth would you not want to get paid for working?

    This isn't Hollywood. We don't need Interns to work for free so they can chaulk up miles...

    Experience is great, but the miles is what companies are looking at, 100K min....1st year OTR in a freight hauler navigating the Lower 48 just to apply at the local Old Dominion or Other Fast Freight P&D.

    Suck it up buttercup. Let the mega fleet get you rolling at 33 cents per mile. Commit yourself to 1 year. Then you will have all the experience to call your self a rookie.

    Then figure out what you want to do between trips, tanker,flat,grain, rocks, concrete, refer, oversized...

    Guess what after 5 years of doing that you can call yourself a trucker.

    After 10 years you can call yourself Master if you survive.

    But the bottom line is to work 1 mile at a time without scratching or denting anything because a scratch is considered a preventable accident.

    CSA....0 points.

    Otherwise....you might want to consider being a Uber !

    Sitting in a New Car with the A/C blowing cold during the summer in a big city meeting all those hot chicks with no car.

    Just two little FYIs ...


    One is insurance companies will not insure non-compensated drivers.

    If anyone doesn't believe me, ask the underwriters.


    Another is your 9 to 5 hours apply to a driving job as if you worked on duty.

    I’m not sure I agree with your 9-5 job as being logged as on duty.
    Even in AG work the first 150 miles out can be logged as off duty even though you are still driving and vice versus the last 150 miles home can be logged as off duty, again even though you are driving.
    Another example would be NASCAR teams. Drivers just don’t drive the truck, they have a job at the track and will arrrive early in the day and work all day long then load up and drive the rig home.

    I am no log book expert but I read this as being an occasional driver must still keep a log book, it doesn’t say they must log working hours on their personal time away from driving.
    Working away from driving is logged as off duty the way I read it.

    I read it as if you’re employed by a non motor carrier and occasionally drive for a motor carrier that your regular job must be logged on duty. Same as if you drive truck all week and have a side job on the weekend, you’re supposed to log it.
