New Driver in Tampa Bay Area - Lots of Questions

The industry is SLOW right now. There are TOO many trucks and TOO many drivers. There is no driver shortage.
DO NOT GO TO CDL SCHOOL UNTIL YOU KNOW WHICH COMPANY WILL HIRE YOU.

 

That is not good. Companies mostly want to see CDL school was AT LEAST 160 hours of instruction. 21 hours is more like a refresher course. God employers are not going to hire a newbie with 21 hours of instruction.

 

I was born & raised in Tennessee and have also lived in Florida for a few years. I'll take Florida anytime over Tennessee. Taxes are high in Tennessee and also has lots of snow and ice during the winter months.
People that can will drive into Kentucky to buy groceries because the taxes are so high in Tennessee for food.

 

Garbage companies pay very well and have good benefits. I've talked to drivers that work for Republic and Waste Management and they have no complaints. Home every day with good paychecks and benefits. Some are union and vested for a pension at the 5 year point.
Those jobs are available in the Tampa area.
