Hello all, my name is Josh, and i'm currently enrolled in CDL Classes through Kaskaskia College in Centralia Illinois. I'm two weeks into the 2 month training course and have throughly enjoyed every second of it, and am very proud to be holding my Permit. I'm really looking forward to getting out on the road after the first of the year. I've been very curious though as through my first two weeks there have been a few companies already come to speak with my class.
Roehl, Werner, TMC, Henderson, and Marvin Keller. The Roehl Recruiter was very nice, considerate, and spent over an hour and a half with the class answering questions and explaining exactly what his company has to offer. I was very impressed by it and took quite a few notes on it. Werner, honestly, that guy i felt like should be selling used cars instead of working for a trucking company as a recruiter. I wasn't very impressed. Henderson and Marvin Keller were both female recruiters and honestly, i hate to say it, spoke very quickly and i did not get many notes with them. The latest to visit was TMC. That guy really made me want to consider Flatbed hauling. Right now, i'm stuck with both Roehl and TMC neck and neck as far as where i'd love to work when i recieve my license. To be perfectly honest though, i feel as though i'm a bit in over my head. Which is why i'm here. I'd like to know from everybody thats actually out there on the road and working for these companys who they think would be a good fit for someone coming out of classes. I'd also love a bit more information on Roehl and TMC as well if it can be provided.
Thanks in advance for the help, i greatly appreciate it.
Josh

Welcome to the circus.
What's your goal?
Do you want to drive OTR?JDRAllmonster and d o g Thank this. -
Flatbed is too much work for not much extra money. Go with Roehl.

One of the main things i liked about Roehl was their hometime options. I'm not wanting to be the guy that nobody remembers coming through town every few weekends for a 34 hour reset. I wanna have some time to be home and enjoy time with my Family and Friends. Roehl offers that better than anybody, however with TMC offering that Percentage pay its really making me consider flatbed.

Add these two companies to the equation.

Shaggy: My number one goal from the start of this is doing something i love to do, drive. I love to see the world. I've been all over the midwest touring with different Monster Truck promotions for the last 5-6 years shooting photos and hanging out with drivers and crew members. Now i wanna see more. The second goal is the money. Unfortunetly i was hit pretty bad in 09 when i got laid off from the factory job i had. I went to school for an Electrical Degree and pretty much wasted 3 years as alot of companys around me only want people with atleast 3 years experience to work for them. Had numourus interviews, 0 call backs, and no one returned my calls back to them. So basically i said screw it, and am going for what i wanted to 3 years ago and thats a CDL.
OTR would be nice, but with how close my family is i know it might not be my best option. -
Josh, Glad you found the forum, I want to tell you, go back in your profile and put in where you are located! That way we can tell where you are when you don't put it in the post, It all depends on what you want to do in life, If you just want to run OTR and not flatbed that Roehl may be good, if you want to FB then these others would be good, It is up to you what you do. But read up on it here, there will be bad said about every company you just need to decide which one has the least amount of bad as far as you are concerned. I highly suggest and I tell every new guy coming in here, to stay where you decide to go, stay there don't be known as a job hopper! Take Care ask the questions! We can certainly left you!
JDRAllmonster and d o g Thank this. -
Lily might have food service, but they rarely hire new CDL grads. Doesn't hurt to apply though. Can enter your zip code and see what's available in your area.blairandgretchen Thanks this.
