Sometimes you have to know your place. Already tearing something up and an iffy track record means it’s probably a good time to kiss up to management. Lots of “good mornings” and “alright, thank you” is in order when you haven’t proven you’re worth keeping around. The driver with 100% on-time, zero accidents, and running hard will have their complaints taken a lot more serious. It’s just common sense. Who would you rather hear be angry? The driver that consistently earns a profit for the company, or the guy that’s a liability and could be easily replaced with the next job applicant?

Angry and irritated are similar, but end very differently in trucking. Sound a little irritated and disgruntled on the phone with dispatch because they didn’t get you home on time? Irritated with dispatch because you only got 400 miles in 3 days? Those things happen, you have metrics to express your concerns, and a resolution or explanation can be found. If a dispatcher doesn’t like it and sends it higher up, you at least have a metric for your concerns. Even sounding a little irritated is expected from time to time. Just tell your dispatcher, “hey, the broker lied and the appointment time is 10 hours from now” and see their response. Also, lots of phone calls are recorded or accessible by management at larger carriers. Raising your voice while saying ‘I’ve only gotten 1900 miles average for the last 4 weeks” will go a lot better than raising your voice while saying “you idiot, how about you learn to do your job and dispatch me better?”.

Have you called Western Express? Carolina Cargo?

At this point, you are looking for a tertiary (second-chance) company to put another 9 months in (accident- and violation-free) and then get a good job.

How many companies have you applied to? Try to do 15 apps a day - minimum! Try Craigslist. Not the best option, but when its your only option it needs to be considered. Next - you need to change your attitude in dealing with customers and other people. They are your customers - even the dispatchers! Do they get things wrong, make mistakes and in general get on your nerves? Every day! But you're living with the consequences of your actions at your last gig, and it is time to decide if this is for you. PAM fired you because you were basically jeopardizing their business and your fellow drivers lively hood with your inability to control your anger.

Are you submitting applications from the trucking company websites or just making phone calls. If you're just making phone calls, probably won't be hired.
