OK to put it simply, Im going through a divorce, I have kids but the ex is not making it easy. I have no criminal record and Im looking to take the girlfriend with me day one
I have looked into a few companies. Western Express, Werner and Ozark. all will allow riders first day out solo.
Im not worried about the cost to have a rider.
Im not looking for a lot of home time, id like to drive as much as possible.
Id like to get into a quicker than average training * Finishing * (sorry) ( we is 2-4 weeks and ozark is up to 4 weeks depending on eval.)
PS I am a Private trucking school graduate ( accredited.)
I guess Im just looking for advice on which way to go given my circumstances.
Any useful information would be greatly appreciated.

Ozark is mainly East Coast freight lanes.
Western Express dry van probably runs 48 states; maybe flatbed too.
I don't know about Werner. They have a lot of junk runs for solo drivers unloading the trailers; "Driver Unload."
There's not a lot to choose from that has day one rider program.
Does Ozark have their own CDL school now?Last edited: Jan 2, 2016

WE runs flatbed in 48, dry van mainly mid to east. per the recruiter.
Werner I guess is all 48Last edited: Jan 2, 2016
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Werner has some nice equipment. I'd stay away from the dedicated accounts such as Dollar General though and haul general freight. It gets old fast unloading trucks every day by hand.
The girlfriend may want to see more of the country than just back and forth to St. Paul.Last edited: Jan 2, 2016

When I was new, I was so glad not to be in a truck that screamed "student driver". Undercover feels good. Ozark would be undercover. The other two, not so much.

Even though the company may promote an OK with a passenger right at day one solo, you best keep in mind there is much more to this profession than can be learned during your "training period". Best to take some time truly solo...all by yourself...before taking on a passenger. Besides, you might find this isn't the life you were expecting, and having "extra baggage" could make it even worse!
