Hey All, Recently passed my CDL A road test and now am looking at several potential companies. I was wondering if you guys have an expeierence with Liberty and if you guys could give me any suggestions between Sysco and Liberty. I have interviews set up with both this coming week but Im trying to do some research lol. I live about 2 hours north of NYC. So I am looking at Liberty's position in New windsor and Sysco in Newburgh.
I know Sysco is Tues- Saturday and starts between 4:30-5:30 at 28.03/ hr at least based on what the recruiter told me. With plenty of OT available.
Any ideas what I should expect from coke? I know its Tues-saturday with a day rate and commision. Is OT plenty or hit or miss?
Thanks in advance!

Well its all about what you want to do. There are several companies hiring right now. Witch is good for new CDL holders. Good in witch they are more willing to hire new ppl.
Food service and beverage delivery can be a pain in the ### job. Mainly because of going up and down the ramp in food service. And moving heavy drinks on a dolly in beverage delivery. This gets old after a while.
However both lines of work can be rewarding in the line haul aspect of the job. Where you just drive and drop and hook. But its best to make your mind up first on what type of trucking you think you would like. Then apply to those companies. Dont just take the first thing thats open.spindrift, SoulScream84, Coffey and 1 other person Thank this. -
Well I got an offer from a more local food service company. Ace Endico they operate tri state. I'm basically good to go they want me to do my drug test and background. But pay is slightly less and its a class B truck. With lift gate, backup cam, collision mitigation, etc.
Honestly I'm completely new to trucking so I'm not totally sure what I'd like. I'm definitely not afraid of hard work. I like the thought of driving and stopping and essentially getting exercise with Food service but I've read a ton of horror stories with Sysco and how they load their trucks and it makes me nervous lol.
I know coke isn't as bad because they have lift gates now and every stop is on its own little pallet and they use an electric pallet jack to bring the stuff in.
I ultimately am considering driving gas/tankers in the future, but I know i need a few years experience first.Coffey Thanks this. -
I wouldn't do the class b one if you want to drive class a in the future

Ask for $28.04/hr and take the job.

Loves aka Gemini hires new cdl holders for local fuel delivery. However its up to the regional manager on if they hire you or not. I would seek that out first since you want to do it in the future.
As far as being new and not knowing much. Doing research via YouTube, the truckers report, and indeed reviews (on potential companies). All this can help you make a decision.
LTL, Car hauler companies, Food service, fuel hauling companies, cryogenic tanker companies, welding supply companies. These are just some if the types of trucking you can get into. Either local, regional, or OTR. The choice is yours.
However most private carriers pay more and have better health care than 3rd party carriers, but not all of them. Just keep that in mind throughout your search. -
If you’re near Hudson New York, I know Ginsburg food service is there. They have linehaul drivers as they run trailers every day down to Binghamton. I don’t know if they’re hiring linehaul, but Foodservice is always hiring delivery. I believe all they have are 28 foot pups with the side doors. I don’t know how they pay or benefits
