I'd go tankers. This opens many more doors to opportunities in the near future for high paying local tanker jobs.

My son started driving hazmat tanker for Schneider right out of trucking school in Jan/Feb of this year. From what he said, the training you get at their location is really good. Unfortunately there were issues with the person they assigned to do his "on the road" training for a week - 10 days or so, he got a rogue trainer. In any company the size of Schneider, you're going to have a few bad apples; it's inevitable. His buddy who went through school with him and took the same job after graduation had a great trainer to drive around with. That buddy is still with the Schneider tanker division.
My son left Schneider after 3 months and was able to get on with an LTL company. According to the person who hired him, the hazmat tanker experience was a factor in his getting hired, even though he only had 3 months of experience (well, really less than 3 months b/c part of that was training time), and you wouldn't think that driving a tanker has any relevance at all to the LTL business. In addition, when he was finishing up school, he got all his endorsements including doubles/triples, so I'm sure all of that helped. So I guess what I'm saying is that the Schneider tanker division is a good place to start, wherever the road takes you. -
