You can always try one of the many Russian companies out of Chicago. I was with DVL Express for couple of years and it was pretty good. Pay was good.

If you do go work for a Chicago company just make sure you avoid being paid by 1099. Last thing you need is tax issues as well. W2 is what you want and what any reputable place will pay you on. 1099 very common tactic in Chicago but I'm sure it happens everywhere.

I'd at least put that one on the list to try, if nothing else works out.
Even though the company is based outside of Texas, doesn't mean you won't be hired and can still get hometime. In your situation, can't be too picky for the next 12 months or so.
